To me Ann and Rishe are somewhat similar they're both smart and kind, they both course-correct quicker than your average FMC. Their relationships with the MMC are also similar in that Arnold and Shall Fen Shall are brutal and cold murderers for everyone else but warm with them even if they don't always show it. Rishe and Arnold's relationship is manifestly romantic while Ann and Shall's is just implied.

Honestly, watching Love Live! Sunshine!! reminded me a lot of Robotics;Notes. Sure a lot of shows have like a girl starting a school club to achieve her dream but Robotics;Notes and Love Live! Sunshine!! had a lot of vibes that made them feel similar.
Firstly, they're both set on a coastal town (Tanegashima in R;N, Numazu in Sunshine!!) and they have a passionate female lead who tries to get people to join their club (even though R;N protagonist is a male).
Where they both differ is Robotics;Notes is part of the Science Adventure Series (the series which Steins;Gate is part of) so it tends to get more serious and darker later on unlike Love Live! which is mainly slice-of-life story following girls who become school idols.

Both are post-apocalyptic anime with the same animation studio (Madhouse) which follow a mysterious yet kind-hearted man (Vash/Casshern) who can't die and is responsible for an untold amount of death and destruction, something they spend the series attempting to atone for. In both cases, they're pursued by a cynical yet caring woman (Meryl/Lyuze) who see them as a dangerous psychopath, though Lyuze's motive is a lot more personal than Meryl's. Eventually, the heroine realises that the protagonist is nothing like the monster they thought he was, and eventually develops a close bond with him. The main difference is that Casshern initially has no memory of who he is or what he did, while Vash remembers his past very well and simply takes a long time to share it.
I prefer "Trigun", as it has a much better story, a lot more character development and a much more bearable tone, though "Casshern Sins"'s visuals are better, albeit not by much. Basically, if you liked "Casshern Sins", you should definitely watch "Trigun". Or better yet, watch the "Stampede & Stargaze" remake, as it's closer in tone to "Casshern Sins" than the original "Trigun" anime.

Both are set in fantasy worlds that are recovering after a great war. Two warriors (Toru and Akari/Luke and Cecily) are trying to protect a mysterious young girl (Chaika/Lisa) from various people who are after her. In both cases, the group are aided by a sentient weapon (Frederica is a Dragoon while Aria is a Demon Sword) who took part in the war.
That said, the characters themselves are quite different from each other- Chaika can hold her own unlike Lisa, Toru is notably less of a dick than Luke, Akari is a lot more cynical and abrasive than Cecily and Frederica is far more energetic and fight-hungry than Aria. Additionally, "Coffin Princess" is a science fantasy that has the characters travel from place to place, while "The Sacred Blacksmith" is a regular fantasy that takes place entirely around a single city.
I prefer "Coffin Princess", as it's more original and adventurous and the characters are more fleshed-out.

Both are isekai in the traditional sense. Both are based on video games instead of the now more typical reincarnation theme. To draw much more comparisons than that would risk being a spoiler, but rest assured, they are similar in the good ways and dissimilar in the ways one might prefer (such as not similar in that there's less harem, bro-con, etc. in Log Horizon)

Vinland Saga Season 2
|
AOT and Vinland Saga taught me there's two outcomes to war.
You can choose to be selfish.
or,
You can choose to be selfless.
s1 after rewatching was colonization. children, mothers, families, lives were lost to set the stage for s2. King Canute, the Vikings, the history we see from this show is REAL HISTORY with a fictional focus on Thorfinn — a character who is representing the children that were born from these wars, this era, and how history is being repeated, how children are being indoctrinated as we speak, HOW YOU ARE.
s2 made me realize enemies are made by the governments to Divide and Conquer. Pirates, mobs, gangs, Vikings, they are not the enemies of the world but cultured into a world of war and slavery. the government calls them savages but uses them, indoctrinates them, then casts them aside.
seeing the reviews made me realize why and how politics works. people love fighting. so i ask people to watch this and think of Thorfinn’s question:
“Is there anywhere that war and slavery have not touched?”
because it has.
“Would it be possible to rid the world of war and slavery?”
because it can.
S2E10 Einar says to Thorfinn:
“Together, we turned an entire forest into a farm. If only all of this land were ours.”
world peace is possible.
my parents were watching a religious show: The Chosen. In S2 they explored the Biblical story of John and James who created a farm in the same way. Upset that Jesus told them to cultivate land that was not owned by them, a lesson not answered?
https://www.thecatholicthing.org/2021/08/24/plow-that-field/
It’s a lesson answered in a way to show that no matter how corrupt the land, how bloody the soil has been tainted, how many people were forced to cultivate this land, that there is nowhere else to go but to turn this land into something worth living on, to create life from more life. how the Vinland Saga S2 shows not to burn a forest to spread death, but to transform a forest into the spread of more life, to create Vinland.
Season 1 defined Love (Love/Hate), that “love” isn’t something a human possesses but an Unconditional Passion, a Godlike Passion — Love/Hate, that this Passion (Love/Hate) is both the human social constructs known as “love” and “hate.”
In S2E13 Thorfinn is eavesdropping on Snake (take note of his symbolic name) who is reading the bible and states:
“Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” — dubbed
“You must love your neighbor and continue to love your enemies” — translated
but love and hate, it’s nothing but a definition. a social construct. (this is why the law doesn’t work btw. it’s called “court language”). to “love” and “hate” like God would be to have Passion like God, a Love/Hate that is Unconditional.
the world would have peace if we all followed that verse from S2E13:
To have Unconditional Passion is the only truth of this world we know. Love/Hate that is balanced for it an Unconditional Law.
Let there be Light meaning Dark. A balance.
Balance of Passion:
Love = Hate = Unconditional Passion ≠ human emotions like "love" and "hate"
So I say to you:
Have Passion for your enemy as you would have Passion for your neighbor, friend, brother, sister, spouse, partner, family, or even a stranger. For if you have no enemies but the world will tell you that you have enemies. In a world of choice, I tell you to choose to create a place for a better tomorrow — Vinland.

Knowledge is power, and both series build their worlds around leaders who reshape their surroundings through intelligence, ambition, and long-term vision rather than simple brute force. The satisfaction comes from watching small beginnings evolve into thriving nations, supported by memorable allies, political decisions, and constant progress.
While That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime leans into fantasy, diplomacy, and large-scale worldbuilding, Release That Witch approaches similar themes through strategy, engineering, and social change. Its unique direction, steady character growth, and rewarding sense of progression make it a natural companion for anyone who appreciates the kingdom-building appeal found in Slime.

Great Pretender
|
Great Pretender clearly doesn't hide its desire to be the modern Cowboy Bebop.
Right off the bat, its fully instrumental opening with abstract visuals using heavy emphasis on primary color contrast and seamless transitions, finishing with a giant title of the show as a jazz orchestra hit right in sync, is obviously a clear hommage to Bebop's iconic Tank opening.
The show takes a deviated approach towards Bebop episodic storytelling by being divided in 4 major arcs which despite having a linear narrative, really feel like standalone arcs that could have been rearranged in any order. The whole pacing shares the same rythm as Bebop with lots of relax, laid back and contemplative scenes intertwined with bombastic action showdowns often involving long lasting chases.
Most of that action is built in sync with fast jazz orchestrations giving the show a fantastic entertaining energy all throughout, an anime standard defined by Bebop. As it is the case with both of them, this music can be associated with the considerable "western" inclination Great Pretender also takes. At least 5 to 6 different languages are featured, multiple locations from the USA, to Singapore, passing by the UK and finishing in China and a main cast with varying origins and ethnicities. All of these giving the whole narrative a really unique and international feeling you don't see in most of the anime industry landscape, be either in 1998 or today.
The main GP cast is also a case of massive inspirations by rearranging the main cast of Bebop into 4 characters sharing similar traits to each Bebop's characters.
-Edamura shares the nonchalance, quick witted attitude and assurance of Spike with much of Faye's hot temper, brash personality, clumsiness and disdain for the rest of his crew early on.
-Laurent takes a similar role as Jet by being the leader of the con man crew, also being extremely competent at his craft and a troubled past he hides from others. In reality he appears very silly and smug most of the time, similar to Spike's frequent moments of absurd comedy, this and a native ability towards seducing women for both.
-Cynthia is THE classic portrait of a femme fatale, especially in appearance much like Faye's design and demeanor induced at first glance. Both losing their cool easily when clever men can see through their charms and sex appeal manipulations. However she takes far more of Jet's role within the story by being the serious "straight guy" of the crew often berating her allies for taking too much unnecessary risks.
-Abby is basically Ed in nature. Androgynous, tanned skin, relatively small and takes the most lone wolf approach in the crew. Unlike Ed who leads towards being an androgynous boy while actually being a girl, Abby is clearly a girl with some tomboyish characteristics. With this, she shares little snippets of the other 3 to form her character, she has Faye's troubled past with her family, Spike's unnatural skill in fast paced combat and Jet's serious attitude in regards to her life activities.
The cherry on top of is an ending with intense focus on character drama, especially the lead, leading you to believe it might copy Bebop's conclusion 1 to 1 but without spoiling, it does its own thing instead.
Lots of reccuring and memorable side characters, sometimes funny sometimes intimidating villains and story full of mishaps and shenanigans is the reason why I think Great Pretender is the closest experience you can get in anime to Cowboy Bebop, far better than Netflix live action that's for sure.
