Shojo manga with gothic sensibilities both in aesthetics and storytelling that feature a compelling supernatural setting and often convoluted plots. Complications that for both stories arise partly from some sort of love triangle, in which neither of the male leads are completely “non-problematic” options. Ultimately all coming together to make both stories incredibly entertaining reads— in despite of and/or as account of their flaws.

Both series are about characters in urban fantasy worlds, where monsters suddenly showed up out of portals in relatively recent history. Monsters are only weak to a small number of awakened raiders/hunters (adventurers) who can use their magic powers to fight them off. People form guilds and raid the dungeons to save society. Both series are about a relatively weak raider/hunter who suddenly gains a new artifact/power that allows them to break the normal rules of raiders/hunters. They then go on to use the knowledge they accumulated while they were weak to rapidly gain power and influence. Honestly, these series are so similar that I wouldn't be surprised at all if one of them started as fan fiction for the other that was later made legally distinct.

Both series involve relatively weak but veteran combatants in a fantasy world who never met their true potential. But who, just before their deaths, are able to gain artifacts of great power that let them go back to their teenage years and train using their advanced knowledge. It also lets them grow more rapidly. They also get the opportunity to attempt to save people they couldn't save in their first lives.

Both use time as a medium to find the perfect outcome.

if you liked this manga because of the atmosphere, gigantic structures, biomechanical horror, loneliness, and that feeling of wandering through a dead futuristic civilization, then there are actually several manga that hit very similar emotions even if none of them fully replicate it the closest recommendation obviously is Blame honestly this is the first thing i would recommend immediately because this manga almost feels like the purest version of everything biomega experiments with. the megastructures become even larger, the world feels even more isolated, and the storytelling becomes far more minimal and mysterious. sometimes entire chapters barely contain dialogue at all, which somehow makes the atmosphere feel even heavier. reading it honestly feels less like following a normal plot and more like wandering endlessly through the ruins of a machine civilization

i kept feeling this strange similarity even though the protagonists are completely different people both manga carry that same heavy loneliness that older historical japanese stories often have not the dramatic anime kind of loneliness but the quiet exhausting kind the feeling of walking forward because life already decided your path long before you understood yourself in Vagabond, musashi keeps chasing strength because he believes becoming invincible will finally give meaning to his existence in azumi, she keeps killing because that is the only life she was ever taught to live different motivations but emotionally they both feel trapped by the paths they walk and honestly that similarity is what connected the two manga for me more than the samurai setting itself and honestly both stories made me realize something similar too violence isolates people the stronger musashi becomes, the harder it is for him to connect normally with others the more efficient azumi becomes as an assassin, the further she drifts away from ordinary life so even though one manga feels more philosophical and the other more tragic, emotionally they both feel like stories about people slowly losing pieces of themselves while continuing to walk forward because they no longer know how to stop

-These stories have strong focus on found-family dynamics -Both portray systems maintained through control and restriction of knowledge -The conflict between main factions (namely pirates vs marines, brim hats vs pointed hats) has some thematic similarities; it's more complicated than just good vs evil, both are capable of cruelty

Both stories have a similarly young protagonist that tries their best to grow strong and help their family. I believe that Little Lion Daughter has a much better story and is a more engaging read.

Both are illustrated by Spoon, so you’ll instantly recognize that gorgeous, nostalgic art style that made WMMAP so memorable. But this time, it’s paired with more mature themes and a darker perspective, giving the familiar beauty of Spoon’s illustrations a deeper, more haunting feel.

Absurd, almost surreal storyline based around driving, and paired with stylized art. You will love these if you like to read some obscure over the top and out of the box manga.

Insane, hypersexual and action-filled manga with story like you've never read before, accompanied by great art.

Both revolve around elite swordsmen carrying emotionally loaded blades. Chihiro and Guts are both driven by loss and rage after catastrophic violence reshapes their lives. Kagurabachi runs in a shonen magazine but it carries heavy brutality and grief that feels similar to Berserk. Both series have great cinematic combat panels with exaggerated momentum and shattered bodies. Neither protagonist survives emotionally alone forever. Allies slowly become emotional anchors against isolation. Kagurabachi is fast paced and berserk is more slow paced. The setting are different

If you like good atmosphere with great fashion, I highly recommend Veil.

Art nouveau from the beginning chapters of Witch Hat Atelier and After God. The art choices perfectly convey their stories, with Witch Hat Atelier being the intricate, whimsical European fantasy storybook, and After God having the fascinating, hypnotic art depicting otherworldly surreal perception. Both artworks are painfully detailed and complex, but undeniably elegant. Morally gray characters on both sides of protagonists and antagonists; right ideals but ambiguously wrong methods. The authors push the characters into extreme situations where right/wrong became blurry and challenges the characters and readers to choose a side. The authors uses dark storytelling but punches us with light-hearted/comedic moments that correlate unexpectedly well into it. The authors are masters over their craft; combining stories with art, mind-bending plots, psychological and emotional depth that agonizes the readers with their heart-wrenching story, yet breaks the tension with a split second humour and wholesome moments. We might be in the midst of the best storytellers.

Similar in psychological density, also a pretty short series (around ten-ish volumes).

Both manga feature time travel and have a lot of gore and suspense; it even seems like Re:Zero was inspired by the other light novel to write it.

Really cute and heartwarming BL manga where the main characters are young high school boys. Nakamura-kun relies more on comedy, but Senshun Kansoku also its share of comedic moments.

Both manhwa's contain a female lead and male lead who struggle to communicate and end up making the situation worse even though at the start their relationship was "fine" Plot's are very interesting and make up most of the story instead of a romance plot (Romance will be involved at some point though) Villain's are someone you could expect but they go further that most villain's of their type. Plots also keep your really immersed throughout through plot twists or interesting plot points Female lead's are really similar and will do anything to survive in the new world they were transmigrated in. Both are pretty morally gray. Overall just very similar and very good manhwa's I could compare.

Essentially Haruhi's set up with more romance and sci-fi rather than mystery/slice-of-life.

Both of them are about basketball, and about the life of practicing the sport while dealing with various things in life. They're also by the same author, so the tone is a bit similar and a bit different, too. Slam Dunk is about high school basketball while Real is about wheelchair basketball.

The art style of the new Violence Jack is very obviously inspired by Berserk and reaches similar heights. The monsters look the same. It honestly looks like Miura drew many of those monsters and the castle himself at times. It features similar mature themes and it has gone full circle. The original version of Jack helped inspire Guts and this version is clearly inspired by Guts. I think most Berserk fans will enjoy this.

Extremely different series. However, both made me feel powerless and a deep sense of loss, seeing the disappearance of society. In both cases, I ended up observing the life I lead, destroyed by the utter lack of value and purpose in it when faced with the end of the world.

Both have stronger female lead's who use their strength for good and survival. Female lead's are competent and a male lead (at least romance) isn't the main focus of the manhwa. Both manhwa's contain more political focused themes as well as battles and war. Female lead's also learn to grow as a person even if it means leaving behind past hatred. Though she doesn't forgive she wants to grow past it to get stronger. (Female lead's are also the lost daughter of nobility if you're into that plotline)

Both are historical and action-driven, but Berserk leans more heavily into fantasy. They’re both deeply philosophical in their own ways. Vinland Saga is easier to read, while Berserk is more intricate, with highly detailed artwork and strikingly beautiful panels. Themes of revenge and redemption run strongly through both series. The best part, in my opinion, is the development of their main characters.

Not specific recommendation to this specific spinoff manga (Nightmare of Fabrication), but to the anime Serial Experiments Lain. Like BLAME, SEL is a dystopian story that blurs the line between reality and the digital world, and poses the threat of sentient AI. Both stories depend very heavily on the audience's own interpretation and give very few specific details on lore. Both stories feature ambiguous settings, main characters, and plotlines.

Both series use the mechanics of 4x strategy games to build a civilization. Both have a main character who was great at a video game before being transported to a fantasy world to use those skills.

Young naive mcs who love magic, bespectacled mentors with memory related issues, hit you in the feels. Atelier is well written and gorgeous while Hibiki no Mahou has guns

The main characters are able to communicate well about many topics (aside from romance). They listen, observe, respectfully question different points of view and validate each other's thoughts/feelings. Both couples deeply enjoy being in the company of one another and are vulnerable in their interactions, which makes their conversations precious.

Both stories involve a young crossdressing prince of Arab heritage, with the difference that Shounen Princess is a cis story with a tomboy girl, while in Sun-ouji the relationship is between the tomgirl prince and a cis boy, aimed at the yaoi genre.

It's a sweet story about a girl who falls in love with a senior at school and discovers that she's actually a crossdressing boy. Makoto, the senior, questions gender roles + his own identity, enjoys wearing dresses and cute accessories. Saki encourages Makoto to dress in a way that makes happy, as they face life's challenges together.

Both manga revolve around 4 characters (2 boys+2 girls) and their (potentially) unrequited love life. Blue flag focuses more on queer identities

Trauma and suffering galore! Without spoiling... Both stories feature child-soldier type characters, and all of the messiness that comes with that. Lots of deaths, many of which are extremely impactful to main characters. Both stories hit on the theme of the world being cruel but beautiful.

Atmosphere and vibes! Both stories are beautifully depicted as taking place within a megastructure. Amazing art with a lot of detail. Protaginists do a lot of wandering and losing track of time. (Dolls Nest: Orphans only has a few chapters out as i write this. I will come back to update as necessary!)

Slow burn of a sweet young love. Has this similar cozy slice of life feel to it, and this slow realizing that you want to spend more time with someone you like and being unsure how to navigate it

If you’re craving dark, twisted family corruption with heavy taboo themes, both Katei no Jijou and AV Joyuu no Kaasan to Hikikomori no Boku ga Sex Suru You ni Natta Wake deliver intense, messed-up mother-son (and sister) drama that goes way further than you’d expect.

A single man fed up of the system tries to do so himself....by violent means. Amateur vigilante is a quicker read while Tsuki to batsu reads more like a novel. Both these manga give similar feel, a dark world where violent actions aren't implausible.

In both manhwa's the villain's are really similar and are kinda like the same person in different formats. The female lead's are strong in their own right and use their knowledge from regression to move forward with their life after a painful end in their previous one. Both female lead's want to save their sick father. Both manhwa's also have a lot of unexpected plot twists which help the story-telling. Cute child-care moments as well if you like that genre

Both series are about friendships in high school and trying to bond with peers. It's also about at what point people are friends, and also try to have icebreakers with people who don't really share much about themselves. And they're quite LGBTQ+.

And they're all action-packed stories with various combat scenes.

Creature Isekai. Language and race barrier as obstacles that the protagonist has to deal with throughout the story. No contrived spells/abilities that lets them turn completely human and blend in (FOR NOW). Well illustrated manga. Tensei shitara dragon egg has some amount of gore.

Protagonists who find themselves reincarnated as evil-ish characters in video games with mechanics and exploits that they're already familiar with. Easy to follow plot. The Zeorg one has alotta fan service in it. Nothing weird or creepy but fan service nonetheless.

Villainess protagonists who manage to recontextualize their roles in an otherwise typical otome setting. Decent dialogue translation.

Sequel that takes place one year later with new main characters that race in MFG's sister series: the MFG Freshman Series.

Witch manga with chill vibes.

While Why Are You Obsessed With Your Fake Wife is more laid back both of these manhwa's have the goal of leaving their families and taking revenge even if they go about it differently! Both manhwa's show symbolic scenes from time to time. Both manhwa's have minor villains that don't stay around long but still help the plot go forward through their minor villainy. Female lead's use past knowledge to their advantage even if in different ways. Male lead's have a goal to get revenge on the ones who killed his parents Both are overall really enjoyable

Both of the female lead's are sold off by their families to a cold noble and have to pretend to love them to survive/get revenge. Both of the nobles they get married to are feared by the imperial family. (for some reason?) Both of the noble families also protect the people by defeating monsters. Female lead's have to deal with a lot to even get peace but then more things keep happening. Slowly though the female lead and male lead start trusting each other and falling in love. Female leads low-key have terrible families and they're both used for political purposes by their families which you can see early on. (Why Are You Obsessed With Your Fake Wife is a bit more toned down but also more focused on revenge while How to Win My Husband over is more focused on acting and the trauma of the female lead.)

Both of these manhwa's start off light and fluffy which is a major deviation from the 2nd half. (In the Siren: Becoming the Villain's Family you know it's going to happen and it's still there a little bit in the start but it still counts imo) Female leads are kind but also would do anything for the ones they love even if it's morally gray! Both manhwa's have a lot of ties to fate and religion the more you read if that's something you're interested in! I just feel really similar vibes from both of these manhwa's even if I can't explain it well.

The early parts of both stories focus on the protagonist (Luffy/Meliodas) traveling across the land to find and reunite a specific group of legendary individuals. Just as Luffy needs his crew to reach the One Piece, Meliodas must find all seven Sins to save the kingdom. In both series, the main protagonists are legally classified as criminals. Luffy is a notorious Pirate, and the Sins are fugitive knights framed for a coup. This places them in constant conflict with the established law enforcement—the Marines in One Piece and the Holy Knights in Nanatsu no Taizai.

Both protagonists, Midoriya and Asta, are born without the fundamental power of their world (Quirks in MHA, Magic in BC) in societies where almost everyone has them. Both characters have a singular, lofty goal to reach the top of their society’s hierarchy to prove their worth—Deku wants to be the No. 1 Hero, while Asta wants to be the Wizard King. Each hero has a talented, "prodigy" rival who has been blessed with immense natural power from birth (Katsuki Bakugo and Yuno). These rivals serve as both a benchmark and a motivation for the protagonists.

While not 100% similar on the surface I get similar vibes from them. One of the leads (female lead for Asahina and male lead for Gal no Jitensha) is socially awkward or just doesn't have a lot of friends but they end up befriending and falling in love with the outgoing lead. Both of the outgoing lead's enjoy franchise media and it's something that does end up letting the main characters of both manga's grow closer! (This is mainly my opinion and may not mean you will like both of them together depending on the person. I just feel if you like one you could most likely, like the other one. I also wrote this early on in Gal no Jitensha's manga releases so it may change at a later date)

Having worked under Fujimoto (the mangaka behind Chainsaw Man), Tatsu (the mangaka behind Dandadan) adopted many of his mentor's storytelling quirks, such as the ability to blend mundane domestic life with absolute supernatural chaos. Tatsu’s experience drawing backgrounds and monsters for Chainsaw Man is evident in Dandadan's detailed, often unsettling alien and ghost designs.

Both stories center on an adventurous crew traveling on a specialized ship (the Going Merry/Thousand Sunny vs. the Edens Zero). The crew members are often outcasts or individuals gathered by chance who form a deep, family-like bond. The setting of Edens Zero mirrors the "island-hopping" adventure of One Piece. Instead of sailing from one distinct island to another in the Grand Line, Shiki travels from one unique planet to another across different "Cosmos" (like the Sakura or Aoi Cosmos), each with its own self-contained story and environment.

– Characters are trapped in isolated, hostile environments. – Both feature unsettling, non-human antagonists with unclear rules. – The stories include graphic violence and psychological tension. – Characters are pushed to extremes to survive.

If you enjoy the classic dynamic of a stunning, popular gyaru girl with a voluptuous, well-developed body paired with an unpopular, introverted otaku, then both Iribitari Gal ni Ma〇ko Tsukawasete Morau Hanashi and Seiyoku Tsuyotsuyo are highly recommended.

Short sci-fi flavored stories that explore human nature, our origins, and/or our future.

Protagonists forced into situations where they have to fight for their own survival and future. High stakes. Amazing female protagonists, who start out weak/naive but become strong and confident in various ways. Phenomenal casts of characters where everyone feels fully fleshed out.

If you like gratuitous violence and gore that borders on ridiculousness, both these stories are right up your alley. Guarantee they will make you tilt your head and think 'wtaf?' The main concepts behind each of these manga are extremely intriguing. Both stories take place in settings that are extremely dark. You will find yourself with LOTS of thoughts about what the greater worlds beyond the stories are like. They both also feature a faction that shows a grotesque lack of respect/consideration for human life.

Both use "Desires" for power

both have super strong characters that are unstoppable and both series are funny

In both manhwa's despite the desperate situation happening throughout the world the female lead is the only one to know the true cause. Also in both manhwa's both threats are real threats but even with that they add fluffy moments which turns it into a more lighthearted story. (Though sometimes the light-heartedness does not make up for the horrifying world they live in) In both manhwa's there's lot's of power schemes and antagonistic nobles/people but it's well written and only adds to the plot. Many people would in-fact take advantage of the world falling apart to gain power or make money. Male lead's are green flags and usually help the female lead out while having been together since they met. The female lead's can get by on their own without the male lead but they work better in a duo

For those who were interested in the realistic depiction of Japan’s night industry, debt, and exploitation. It shows the same harsh underbelly of society, though with a more cynical and brutal tone.

Both works portray characters struggling on the margins of society, trapped in cycles of dependency and quiet despair. Mii-chan to Yamada-san shares a similar unflinching realism and compassion for its broken characters.

Both series use a deceptively cute art style that hides an incredibly dark, emotionally raw story. If the contrast between Mii-chan's innocent smile and the harsh realities of the nightlife world hit you hard, Punpun delivers that same devastating emotional experience.
