Replica datte, Koi wo Suru.

On days when Sunao is sick, or not feeling like going to school, she is called to take her place. She was born to this world when Sunao wished to have a substitute. No one knows that she exists, but she tries to do her best for Sunao whenever she is called. One day she talks with Sanada, one of her classmates. They become friends, but soon he notices that she is different from the original Sunao...he was the first one who did. She tells him to talk with her only when she has her hair half-up. Sanada does like she told him, and they enjoy their time together. As they become closer, she realizes that she has special feelings toward Sanada. But she doesn't know what will happen to her...if she, a replica, falls in love.

I have absolutely no clue why this is being rated so low, because this series is incredible so far! the vibes are immaculate and the main couple is adorable, it feels dreamy in a way especially with the visuals and the soundtrack, perfectly fitting of a concept that feels like a dream to begin with

the characters are very well written, almost shockingly so, and the replicas especially feel so human, more so than their actual human counterparts, and they just get deeper with each passing episode, the replica concept gets explained super well and in really high detail and I feel like I learn more ... about these characters every episode, to those that hesitated on this one: give it a shot! its not a masterpiece but it is definitely great in its own right, and one of my favorite spring 2026 anime, super underrated!

Preliminary (5/13 eps)

There are many romance anime in this spring 2026 season. Where "Even a Replica Can Fall in Love" differs is we follow a replica by the name Nao. Essentially, Nao is a replica of a girl named Sunao. As the show presents to us, Nao feels similar to what you consider a twin but, on the surface, lacks what each twin would use to differentiate themselves from the other. As for Nao she lives for Nao and completes her requests.

This anime is more a romance drama, as it uses the idea of replicas to examine characters like Nao in a psychological sense in comparison to ... humans. If you are looking for something more lighthearted, this might be the fit for you. But if you are looking for good, tightly written drama with romance, this makes for a great show to watch. Despite being a replica, Nao comes across as very human in an ironic sense.

As far as an adaptation, it has its pros and cons. The pros are that the pacing from the light novel is excellent. As it captures the emotional beats very well. Also, the art direction and voice acting are very nice.

The con would be directing and sound direction. This anime is missing a strong OST to elevate many scenes. As it feels quiet, which isn't a bad fit. Though there are some scenes where a much stronger sound direction would elevate. Furthermore, the overall directing feels very plain. It gets the job done but could be better.

If you are looking for a unique story and/or you are a fan of romance drama with solid writing, this show is absolutely worth a watch.

Mixed Feelings

I can tell this will be painful...

The story reminds you of Plastic Memories, where the MC is not real and is a fake version of the real girl. The MC is treated horribly by the OG version, and holy shit is the real one annoying. If you don't want her to affect your life, then don't summon her so often, she has literally no redeeming qualities...

Well, the art and animation is subpar, but not bad enough to affect the story. The story itself has an great and interesting premise, but often the episodes feel like a slog to get through. The sidecast is quite ... average and they feel kinda robotic, but the MCs are engaging enough to me. The story isn't too hooking yet, but I'd assume itll get better from here. I feel like the series will be a hit and miss for some people. Sanada is okay as a character, but we haven't seen much of anything from him.

If you like a sadder, romance/drama, the series is for you.
If you like a more chaotic sci-fi type story or a happier romance, it probably won't be what you expect.
