I didn't know Seraph of the End, it looks very interesting so I'll keep it in mind. Regarding Tari Tari, I like drama but I'm not a big fan of Slice of Life, especially if they are very episodic (meaning each episode is a different story). Is it that style? Thanks for the recommendations.
Ahhhh, I did think the girl on the right of the picture for The Eden of Grisaia looked pretty Senjougahara-like, so that makes sense! But while I do enjoy the character designs in the Monogatari series, the person who actually did that art has never really crossed my mind since NisiOisiN and Shinbou dominate when it comes to the humans that I associate with the franchise (outside of the voice actors). Also, I was kinda disconnected from anime stuff around 2013 through 2015. Most of what I watched at the time was stuff that was getting a LOT of attention (like One Punch Man) or was continuations of things I've already been watching (like the Monogatari series).
Wait, so did you accept my friend request and them remove me as a friend? Because I got a notification that you accepted, but it currently doesn't show us as friends.... Unless MAL is just being weird? But yeah, no worries either way. I just thought it was weird since we've been talking back and forth, so I just assumed that we were friends on here, then was confused when I didn't see you listed in the Stats tab of The Fruit of Grisaia. And yeah, I assume we've talked about you being younger than me at some point, but since it'd been a while since we last talked and you don't have your birthday on your profile, it didn't cross my mind. Sorry about that.
I am well aware that I am "missing out on" a LOT of things! Who knows, maybe I'll have a reason to get back into Assassination Classroom someday? But the chances are pretty low. And man, I was just bored out of my mind with the first episode of Future Diary, just wasn't interested in it one bit. I probably could have just as easily dropped Deadman Wonderland, but I was watching it with my ex at the time, and I do think that its setting and main characters were more interesting than in Future Diary.
Hehe, yeah..... Clannad: After Story probably my biggest marks of shame when it comes to anime that I haven't gotten around to watch yet. I don't really have a good excuse for that. Not only did I watch and love the first series YEARS ago, but I've also had After Story on DVD sitting on my shelf for a decade or so. I think at one point I was thinking about upgrading to Blu-ray before I watch it?? I don't know. Again, no good excuse for it. Just a travesty.
Love Live is a little less of a priority/mark of shame for me. I did really like it from what I remember, but I'm not super jumping at continuing at this point. This might sound weird to people with more strict/wide score distribution, but for me there is a pretty big difference between a 9 and 8 score. 9s make up the bottom half of my Top 100 series of all time, things that I'd gladly own physical copies of and would like to rewatch, time permitting. 8s are all solidly outside of my Top 100 and while they would be things that I very much enjoyed and was touched by them in some way or another, I can also take-or-leave when it comes to owning them, watching them again, or even watching their continuations. If it wasn't for the fact that, again, there is just SO MUCH ANIME, plus other hobbies and such fighting for my time, then I could see myself getting really into my 8s. Back in the day Sailor Moon was probably an 8 at best for me and it was one of the shows that I was most into back then. But that's just because there wasn't all that much anime that I'd been exposed to yet.
Hahaha! I was just checking the stuff you talked about watching and stuff (I'd actually never heard of the Grisaia franchise), and I realized that we're not actually "friends" on here! So yeah, just sent you a request.
Anyway, Assassination Classroom was a fun watch, but I feel like I'd seen enough with the first season.
I'm honestly not sure how I read what I did of Deadman Wonderland.... Maybe I borrowed the first volume from a library at some point? Unfortunately there are more things in the queue for me with reading manga and other stuff than there is stuff for anime. Never say never though, I suppose!
Yo! Sorry, get a little distracted, mostly by video game stuff. Got really into a free-to-play game called Arknights: Endfield. I was never interested in those Genshin-style games, but tried this one purely because my favorite band Starset did a song for it. XD
Then Slay the Spire 2 came out in early access on Steam, so that melted away over 100 hours of my life. Good stuff, thought I'm a little sad that it doesn't have achievements yet.
For anime, my wife and I are getting back to watching anime more regularly again, working our way through finishing stuff that we started for the Summer 2026 season and went ahead and started Re:Zero 4 and Witch Hat Atelier from the new season to watch week-to-week. Nothing else for Spring 2026 immediately grabbed my interest, so waiting for the Mother's Basement recommendations before adding anything else to the rotation. Still got a bunch of other stuff from previous seasons to start. Way too much anime of interest for us. It sucks sometimes to have broad tastes.
Not too much else going on, really. Just workin' and chillin' and such! How've you been?
Yeah, mid-2000s to mid-2010s was a bit of a golden age for me when it comes to anime; Suzumiya Haurhi, Bakemonogatari, Higurashi, Toradora, Madoka Magica, Katanagatari, Gurren Lagann, Your Name, Kimi ni Todoke, FMA Brotherhood, Genshiken, Steins;Gate, A Silent Voice, Black Lagoon.... Yep, easily more than half of my top 20 anime of all time came out during those years.
Any particular stuff you have your eye on from those times? I am hoping that this season does end up pretty slow for me and my wife too so we can catch up on the 2025 stuff we got sidetracked from and sprinkle in more of showing each other some of our favorites that the other hasn't seen.
Thanks! Happy New Year to you and hope things are going good for you as well!
Sadly my wife and I didn't even start everything we planned to watch from the last Fall season and out of what we did start the only thing we watched more than 2 episodes of so far was Sanda due to the Christmas vibes (and even that only got up to ep 4). The holidays (plus getting sucked into some video gaming) really sidetracked us, partially because we do this whole Advent Calendar thing for Christmas each year where we pick a bunch of holiday movies and board games and (mostly) randomly stick them in a reusable advent calendar to watch a movie or play a game each night. In addition to that, we did the most recent Exit Advent Calendar game this year plus an advent calendar puzzle each night, so yeah, not much room for a lot of anime, especially when I also got my wife sucked into playing the video game Satisfactory and that made me get back into it and want to 100% the Steam achievements. XD
Anyway, this season! I hadn't looked super close at what's coming up until now, and the season isn't far enough along for Mother's Basement to do his Ones to Watch video on it yet, but giving them a quick look over....
The only for-sure things for us this season are the continuations of [Oshi No Ko] and Frieren since we both have enjoyed those together up to this point, plus the long overdue adaptation of Hana-Kimi since my wife remembers liking what she read of the original manga and I'm always down for a good shoujo series (although looks like the initial ratings here on MAL for the first episode aren't great so hope it doesn't suck). The only other continuation that I'll probably watch at some point is the Vigilante My Hero spinoff, assuming I enjoy the rest of the first season enough (my wife bounced off of it after the first few episodes so I've been slowly working through it on my own).
As for new-new things, giving the seasonal page a quick look.... You and I Are Polar Opposites looks like it can be a fun light rom-com. Journal with Witch looks like a nice more mature story that already has a decently high average on here from the first episode, plus josei adaptations are pretty rare so I'd like to check it out just because of that. Kaya-chan Isn't Scary looks like it could be fun, but my wife isn't super into horror, so not sure if we'd watch it together unless it's counterbalanced really well with cute slice-of-life elements. Wash It All Away looks like it could fill my pure chill slice-of-life needs for the season.... And that's about it as far as new things that jump out to me. There were a few hard "maybes" for me in the season, but I'll wait for the Mother's Basement video and/or look through the ANN preview guild reviews before adding anything else to our potential watching schedule.
Oh! And there is one other kinda-seasonal thing we're going to watch. We'll be going to see the new All You Need Is Kill movie adaptation in theaters on 15 January. I recently had my wife watch the 2015 US live action adaptation for the first time (Edge of Tomorrow) which she enjoyed and plan to also have her watch Mind Game to get her exposed to the Studio 4C style (and since it's one of my favorite anime movies that I haven't had her watch yet).
Overall, we're going to get back into the groove of our "entertainment schedule" coming off of the holidays and such. Hopefully things go well!
Any anime this season that you're planning to watch?
