Synopsis

In the American Old West, the world's greatest race is about to begin. Thousands line up in San Diego to travel over six thousand kilometers for a chance to win the grand prize of fifty million dollars. With the era of the horse reaching its end, contestants are allowed to use any kind of vehicle they wish. Competitors will have to endure grueling conditions, traveling up to a hundred kilometers a day through uncharted wastelands. The Steel Ball Run is truly a one-of-a-kind event.

The youthful Johnny Joestar, a crippled former horse racer, has come to San Diego to watch the start of the race. There he encounters Gyro Zeppeli, a racer with two steel balls at his waist instead of a gun. Johnny witnesses Gyro using one of his steel balls to unleash a fantastical power, compelling a man to fire his gun at himself during a duel. In the midst of the action, Johnny happens to touch the steel ball and feels a power surging through his legs, allowing him to stand up for the first time in two years. Vowing to find the secret of the steel balls, Johnny decides to compete in the race, and so begins his bizarre adventure across America on the Steel Ball Run.

Preliminary (1/? eps)
The characters have extremely cool and good designs. (10/10)

The art is always really good. (8/10)

MC Gyro Zeppeli (9/10)
He is really cool his ability is used really well and can be very versatile in many situations.

MC Johnny Joestar (6/10)
Not a whole lot of character was shown, especially from a Joestar.
I watched the first episode and it was truly amazing. From the very beginning, the animation quality and atmosphere immediately make a difference. Starting with Johnny and seeing Sandman in the first episode was quite surprising.Their two best things: Pacing and scene design. The scenes connect incredibly smoothly, and they've even added extra scenes and these have ...

Mixed Feelings
Preliminary (1/? eps)
(Very preliminary review until we get more episodes)

Steel Ball Run's manga start is much slower than other JoJo parts, and so the anime tried to fix that by rushing things a bit in a 50mins special. It does however a sloppy job at choosing what to cut and how, making it overrall a weaker start than the material it's adapting.
If the small parts they cut end up being adapted later on, all will be forgiven, but until then I can't say it's the most optimal adaptation job they could've done.

The animation is very good however! Having actually 2D animated horses in an anime is like ...

FunnyFunny
Preliminary (1/? eps)
The part 7 adaption is similar to its previous part with lacklusting animation, storyboards and turn-based approach to battles. The story so far is not on par with previous parts like part 3 of Jojo which had the introduction of the classic "Stand" concept, etc. Instead SBR repeats the same formula and don't innovate much other than change settings and this time its a horse race. The music is okayish but nothing close to what part 5 and 4 soundtrack were, in terms of adaption its lacking a lot of the charm and details from the manga that were removed for a more budget friendly ...
