Arifureta Shokugyou de Sekai Saikyou

The ordinary life of 17-year-old otaku Hajime Nagumo is disrupted when he and his classmates are summoned to a fantasy world and tasked with saving mankind. While his classmates are gifted with impressive abilities useful in combat, Hajime is belittled for only gaining an inferior transmutation skill that lacks any real offensive power.

During an expedition in the Great Orcus Labyrinth, Hajime is betrayed by one of his classmates, plummeting him to the bottom of an abyss. Though he survives the fall, Hajime is faced with menacing monsters and misfortunes that send him spiraling into a grim nightmare. Desperate to live and return home one day, he resolves to fight for his survival—only to meet an imprisoned vampire he names Yue, who is also seeking to escape the labyrinth. Taking an interest in him, Yue and a few others along the way accompany Hajime on his journey to find a way back home, while steadily transforming from commonplace to the world's strongest.

Well, Overall, I find the anime a great and highly enjoyable Isekai. Many people call this just a “good average anime” — they are probably big fans of mainstream, polished stuff. But a person with real taste understands this is a solid, fun power fantasy that knows exactly what it wants to be.
Arifureta knows exactly what corners to cut to keep things fast, light, and still interesting as a story. It doesn’t waste time on unnecessary filler or slow world-building — it throws you into the action, the revenge, the harem-building, and the OP moments right away. The pacing is addictive. Some moments are genuinely ... funny too, with that classic over-the-top isekai humor that lands when you’re in the right mood.
Classic “betrayed and left for dead, comes back ridiculously strong” setup, but executed with confidence. The story moves at a brisk pace, focusing on Hajime’s journey from weakling to walking apocalypse. It’s not trying to be a deep psychological drama or a masterpiece of world lore — it’s a straightforward, satisfying power fantasy with revenge, dungeon crawling, and party-building. And it delivers exactly that without pretending to be something else.
Hajime is the ultimate edgelord done right for this genre — cold, efficient, and ridiculously overpowered. The harem members each bring their own flavor and the side cast is entertaining enough. Not every character gets deep development, but that’s part of the charm. It focuses on what matters: Hajime clearing everything in his way.
The animation isn’t always top-tier (especially early on), but it gets the job done for the action and cool moments. The music fits the power fantasy vibe perfectly, and the voice acting sells the over-the-top lines and humor well.
This is a great anime for people who actually enjoy isekai power fantasies instead of just complaining that it’s not “mainstream quality.” It knows its audience, cuts the fat, keeps things moving, and delivers fun, funny, and satisfying moments throughout.
Highly Recommended if you want something light, fast, and entertaining after a long day. Don’t listen to the mainstream snobs — sometimes the “average” ones are the most enjoyable.
WATCH IT. A person with taste will understand why it’s great.

Mixed Feelings

It's important to note that I'll be talking about all three series here. My reason will become apparent.

With this story, one of the basic rules of anime is violated: The first series is bad. How bad? I had it as a 1 during its first two-thirds. That's ExArm-level awful. The only reason I didn't drop it is that I don't drop series. The nipple-less naked vampire loli had that Crunchyroll sqeak that only dogs and bats can hear clearly. (What *is* it with Crunchyroll audio in recent years? The old stuff is fine, and the new stuff isn't.) The CGI alone was the stuff ... of nightmares, but added to the protagonist whipping up complicated engineering from, literally, dust and becoming OP was ridiculous. Toward the end, though, it got interesting enough that against my better judgment I started the second series.

Which is to say, if you're interested in watching just the first series, don't waste your time unless you just like dungeon battles for their own sake. (Seek treatment.)

The second series was stunningly different. It was funny, not just unexplained battles but characters with depth, humor that sometimes was almost Konosuba quality, and a plot. A fine series.

The third and so far final series is even better, except that ends long before the story does; we should have translated LNs made readily available to us when the production companies pull this kind of thing. So yeah, it has a typical anime ending, which is to say no real ending at all. It is how we're reminded that the companies care about us not at all. [Rant over.] As was hinted at a little in the second series, season 3 starts to get a little ecchi -- lingering shots on panty wrinkles, that kind of thing, as well as occasional suggestive dialogue. It also devotes several episodes to mostly monologue scenes in which the various characters are deeply explored. I was fine with this, but not everyone will be.

Which is to say that the series overall grows to be pretty good (before disappearing over the cliff) but by itself the opening season of Arifureta Shokugyou de Sekai Saikyou kinda sucks.

After watching all 12 episodes of Arifureta Season 1, I finally understand why the rating is so low. This might be one of the worst anime adaptations I’ve actually finished. Episodes 1–2 were a complete mess, couldn’t even tell what was going on. The lighting, color composition, and overall direction in those episodes were terrible; it felt rushed and unfinished. The dungeon exploration was incredibly uninteresting, and even after that, the animation overall was very poor. The CGI was stiff, overused, and looked bad. The plot felt unfocused, completely all over the place, jumping from one event to another out of nowhere.

The pacing was ... also bad, making it hard to feel any depth in the story. The power system wasn’t properly explained, and the side characters were forgettable, many of them felt like nothing more than background props. The character dynamics felt forced and unnatural, especially between Nagumo, Yue, and Shea. There was also a lot of cheap sexual bait and excessive fan service played off as jokes, which I honestly didn’t understand. Arifureta is a truly embarrassing adaptation.
