Nozomanu Fushi no Boukensha

While exploring a labyrinth, Rentt Faina, an adventurer with lots of experience but little to show for it, is killed by a dragon upon discovering its lair. Shockingly, he wakes up to find himself turned into a skeleton, the lowest class of undead monsters. As Rentt fights against the other monsters of the labyrinth, he discovers that slaying them gains him experience towards higher stages of undead evolution—even ones with flesh! With this revelation in hand, Rentt obtains a new objective in his undeath: keep evolving in the hope of eventually becoming a vampire, the highest form of undead that is nearly indistinguishable from human beings.

Despite being forced to hide his past identity and monstrous nature under an unremovable mask, Rentt manages to return to a semblance of his former life. Granted shelter by Lorraine Vivier, an elite researcher and retired adventurer, Rentt assumes her surname and starts over from scratch as a rookie. Determined to pursue his childhood dream and become a mithril-class adventurer, Rentt must be cautious not to disclose his new bodily circumstances, lest the adventurers’ guild seek to exterminate the monster he has become.

This one was very good. The premise is nice were the mc has to struggle to fit in. While the mc is a bit flat in terms of being a classic hero. The story relationships and power progression more than make up for it. The action scenes are nice and the animation is as well. It has some slice of life elements without completely dragging out the story. Also there is power progression but the mc doesnt become a litteral god by episode 2 wich is always a plus. Overall I think most people would enjoy this anime and id recommend it.

Mixed Feelings

So the entire show is very generic with the typical I get stronger with more enemies I defeat. The only unique concept is the self evolution of going from a skeleton into a more humanoid form. While almost losing himself in the process of self evolution basically. Only two good characters in the show are the main leads. There is an annoying rat that's for some reason louder than the protagonist when he speaks. The rat makes loud noises that are a straight rip off or inspired sounds from Zelda breath of the Wild korok ... seeds. The only saving grace is the rat is only in two episodes max out of the twelve. Anyway it's a good show if you have nothing else to watch or don't want anything you have to fully commit to since it's quite short. I will say the ending song is quite elegant and really the best thing about the show. I could easily fall asleep to the song and I actually saved the song for my sleep playlist.

This show took an interesting idea & kicked it down a flight of stairs. Each time it hit its head on the way down it got slower & duller.

It should have followed the plot it started to follow but abandoned. It would have been an interesting, kinda funny, (maybe-romance?) story about a guy who’s given a second chance to become stronger than he was before he became undead, facing challenges b/c of his new appearance, fighting alongside a newbie girl adventurer w/ a chip on her shoulder (presumably). Pretty similar to a lotta other shows, but the undead thing was interesting & it coulda been ... entertaining.

Instead it turned into a mid story about an already overpowered low-rank guy talking over mundane crap with his researcher friend as he does side quests. It became as derivative as it coulda been but went further!, because all the potentially interesting issues to do w/ him being undead & looking undead were completely stripped away.

“I became an undead & I was forced to wear a mask & a cloak to do things!”. “I became an undead niceguy.” It’s basically an adventurer’s slice of life, which would be ok, but everything’s got this weird tension to it. It feels like things are ~supposed to~ matter, but they don’t. There’s no actual conflict, at all. There’s also a lotta eye-rolling moments that I won’t mention because I don’t want to spoil it. I feel cheated and I’m annoyed. A complete waste of time.
