Synopsis

Since ancient times, the arcane arts have been used as tools of political strife and weapons of war. Practitioners of these arts, known as spellcasters, sought to ensure the survival of their kind by demonstrating the utility of their powers to the government. However, as the ages passed and the number of spellcasters grew, momentum built within the arcane community to reassess their societal standing. It was in this climate that a nation of spellcasters—commonly known as the Eastern Enchantment—was born. And the governing body of this land came to be called... the Empyreal Cabinet.

This manga builds its lore and plot very slowly. And for me it's a pretty good pace. Reading for example Kagurabachi with similar themes, but at a faster pace (if anyone reads it, you'll understand me) I understand that maybe this is the pace it should have been written at if it wasn't released weekly. I'm interested in learning about some detail from this world in each chapter, politics, laws and similar things!! Of course I wouldn't call it a breakthrough in the manga industry, but the story is pretty good!!! Although it's very difficult to judge based on only 7 chapters, but if the ...

Empyreal Cabinet sets out to be a great new gen manga with absolutely outstanding worldbuilding from the very first chapter. It centers around Toya Tatsumori, a young Spellcaster and a member of a special unit of exorcists protecting their country from supernatural threats. It may sound generic on paper, but I assure you it is not your average battle shonen. As a series I like the concept of the plot and characters, but I can't help but finding the overall writing and pacing to be desired. It feels like there was a first arc which was supposed to introduce the world and characters but got scrapped at the last minute. Storylines feel rushed and like they are missing the set up necessary for a story to function. The art itself is fairly standard for a modern shonen but nothing to particularly write home about.
