Shunkashuutou Daikousha: Haru no Mai

This anime gets me tearing up in every single episode! I generally like animes with emotional back story and beautiful art, so if you're like me then you will love this anime ! However if you're looking for a more complex story set up, potentially this anime might seem a bit "bland". i'm 6 episodes in and there isn't too much character development and it more focuses on past story-telling. You can technically call this more like a backstory-based violet evergarden, but purely storytelling on what happened BEFORE rather than the AFTER of where there would usually be more plot & character development.

What ... I really like about this anime is that despite the lack of story development, it really makes you think about the feeling of each character. The story largely focuses on Hinagiku's backstory but the anime tells this story from different character's perespective at each episode. So these characters eventually end up growing onto you.

If you like animes with MCs having a tragic past or beautiful art, then I highly recommend this.

I find it kinda slow.

Especially the first and third episodes, basically nothing happens.

I like the art style and the story is unique so that's a plus.

I liked the second episode as there is some action and some deeper lore diving.

I'm kinda conflicted if I want to continue it or not, I'll give it another 2 episodes to see if something actually happens, if not I'll drop it.

... If you don't like slow developing stories, I think this won't be for you.

For now I'll give it a 6 as I really don't like slow stories.

It’s a cool magic setup, but the crybaby MC and their annoying fear of killing really dragged it down for me. Not my thing at all.

The animation is actually solid, and the art fits perfectly, but the story is just too predictable. The protagonist's drama is way too generic. What really got to me was seeing characters who are supposed to be trained warriors refusing to use lethal attacks even when it makes no sense. It really ruins the immersion when the situation clearly calls for a more realistic approach.

Skip this if you want action or gore focus. It feels like it's leaning towards a ... slow-burn romance, so it might appeal to fans of that, but for everyone else, it’s a pass.

The show sold itself on the idea of magic, but it ended up feeling secondary to the drama. It makes you wonder: if the focus was going to be entirely on romance and emotions, why even bother including the magical and action elements in the first place?

I could even understand the need for such a sentimental and dialogue-heavy plot if the MC at least had a better personality and more initiative, but everything is sooooo slow and dense because the MC does nothing and needs help with everything.
