Season 2 continues right off where season 1 left off. The gang continues to learn about Tao and the Tensen, while trying to steal the elixir of life, and make it back home safely. There's a lot of information, and Tao is still confusing as you will have a hard time remembering which element helps which, and which hinders which, and what is uhh...regenerating, stuff like that yeah. But I gotta say, despite all that I still like it because of one reason. The characters.
IMO, the original characters who is left from reason 1, which is Gabi, Sagiri, Aza, Nurugai, Gantetsusai, Yuzuriha (my waifu), Fuichi, and Mei- makes this show. There's plenty of screen time for each characters to shine, and more backstory to help you feel a bit more connected (although it does feel forced at times). Each character has a complex feeling of what they should do, which makes the plot that much more interesting. I won't spoil too much, but of course the best is still Gabi. He is confronting his past, and with a determined goal in mind, our boy is pulling out all the stops and tricks to get back to his wife. Gabi becomes even more of a badass this season as he incorporates all the techniques he learns right away into his arsenal.
The action- ohh boy. Yeah they definitely spared no expense. The action is amazing. Each slice, each power up, lots of colors, lots of techniques, and it's all very beautiful. I'd say even if you don't like the other parts, the action alone is worth watching.
How about the plot? Well- it's still the same as before. The tensen are trying to perfect the elixir by using humans. The humans are still trying to steal the elixirs. Oh yeah- and there's another group sent by the main land mixed with Asaemons and shinobi's. Led by the insane Shugen and the next "Gabi". Shugen- oh lord what a way to introduce a character. The way he acts is so interesting and I can't wait to learn more about him. Anyways, that's the plot but the season does end on an cliffhanger that of course makes you want more.
The negative I would say is the same that unfortunately stains a lot of action/fantasy animes these days (Juju Kaisen, Demon Hunters, Solo Leveling, etc). And that is- the humans are simply too OP. Like, humans are stabbed, shot in the head, have their organs ripped out, but uhh- they're okay. Like the next scenem, they're good as new and ready to run a marathon. It doesn't make sense and takes me out of the immersion. Like, humans are doing this without Tao. And the villains are ridiculously weak. Another disappointment, cause the Tensens were built up to be god-like beings, but they're actually pretty pathetic. Their only saving grace is regeneration, but there's sooo many ways around that to kill them- it's really stupid and unfair. The Tensens should've just become humans if they want more power, cause humans clearly are the superior creatures. The show does get too shounen-y, where you just know the good guys will always win and nobody dies except the bad guys. So you don't really feel like there's any risks or stakes with these battles. Cool action though, but yeah a let down because it's very predictable who will win.
That said, I still enjoy it and if you like season 1, you for sure will like season 2 as well. 8/10 would recommend.
