Tsue to Tsurugi no Wistoria Season 2

The first time I encountered Fujino Ōmori’s work was through DanMachi. It had all the usual isekai/harem tropes that appealed to my younger self. It wasn’t even close to a masterpiece, but it was a solid 7/10 that I kept watching whenever I had nothing better to do.
Then Season 4 arrived and took it to a whole different level.

Wistoria is the latest work from the author of Danmachi, and so far it has maintained the excellent quality of the aforementioned Season 4. The best way I can describe it is '3-star Michelin trash.' It somehow takes every overused fantasy trope in anime and turns ... them into pure, top-tier entertainment.

Underdog becoming OP through the power of friendship in a hostile world — check.
Cringe-inducing monologues — check.
Power system that makes zero sense — check.
Bigger plot armor than Solo Leveling — check.
Every girl falls for the main guy because… reasons — check.

And yet, in a season packed with heavyweights like Witch Hat Atelier, Classroom of the Elite, Tensura, and Re:Zero, Wistoria is still the show I look forward to most every week. In just three episodes, it has achieved a level of hype that no other show has matched in recent memory.



Conclusion:
It’s not deep, it’s not original, and it’s not groundbreaking in any aspect, but it’s incredibly fun — so much so that it might make me buy my first manga ever.

its tropey, its a bit sappy, its a bit predictable, but it's perfect as it is. while the arc itself seems like its going to take one or two more episodes to conclude, i can confidently say everything this season has been perfectly executed upon. obviously as the season goes on, its not going to be able to keep up this level of quality, but taking stock of what we have now,

great animation

narrative follow through for many dangling ideas or concepts from season 1 (in effect, this means the story is good, but for a season 2, it also means the story has responsible storytelling ... and is not buckling over its own continuity like boruto or dragonball super)

genuine stakes

quality music and voice acting

good pacing

these days, a show having even one of these, voice acting, is enough to reach a level of popularity or success, particularly animation, so getting all of them at once is a rare treat. by and far the most valid complaint i could foresee is people calling the story predictable, and to that end, there's no refutation. every time a show has a chunin exams, its interrupted. every time the main character is the worst, be becomes the best. thats anime, best get used to it.

10/10, hope they don't force me to change my mind.

Here's the only decent part of this season -
Animation - 8 or 9/10
If you are here for fights, enjoy those and fast forward through the rest of the cringe.
It has no bearing or consistent logic whatsoever.

I liked the first season.
It had world building. It had tropey non-explained bias/discrimination.
But atleast for the entire season the logic was consistent.

This season has already blown the roof off.

Screenplay and Story - 3/10
Plot induced stupidity, plot armor, plot holes, changing logic. No consistency.

Characters - 4/10
Apart from 5-6 human like characters, the rest literally spin 180 at the drop of plot requirement.
No consistency. No logic. No explanation.
Plot demanded humbleness, plot demanded ego, plot demanded evil, plot demanded good.

Direction - 4/10
Just cliffhanger endings each episode in a badly directed show.

If Season 1 was the spark, Season 2 is the absolute inferno. This season solidifies Wistoria as a modern masterpiece for anyone who loves a classic underdog story pushed to the extreme.

The absolute best part of this season is watching Will continue to defy a world that was built to exclude him. There is something incredibly cathartic about seeing a character who was mocked for having "no magic" prove that hard work and a blade can shatter the status quo.

Without spoiling too much, the way Will’s special power is explored this season is peak shonen. It doesn't feel like a cheap "win-button"; it feels earned. ... Seeing him tap into that unique strength—blending his physical prowess with his mysterious abilities—resulted in some of the most hype-inducing moments I’ve seen in years.

If you love stories where the "weakest" student becomes the most dangerous person in the room, you need to watch this!

I have no clue how this is a top ~400's anime for the people of this site.

The previous season at least had a semblance of good animation, but they absoluted dropped it for this one so the anime just looks horrible. Lots of still images with lines drawn over them to imply movement is the best you will see here.

The directing is very subpar and doesnt really make the poor animation any better. The writing is pretty meh as well even though its a shounen for kids (not really the place where you would look for good writing but it still stands out as ... pretty poor)

I get following the new season cause you enjoyed the previous one, but this having a 8,24 rating is just insanity, this is a terrible anime.

I watched the first season and it had better direction than the second season. The fight scenes in the first part of the anime aren't bad, but I feel they could have been much better. It seems like they just adapted one fight scene for one and that's it; there was no polish, nothing outstanding, it was simply one fight scene and that's it. I'm not saying it's bad, but it could have been much better, something truly epic. The animation is standard and will probably stay that way until the end. The first episode could easily have been the final episode of the first ... season; it would have been a much more interesting cut.

Great animation and the story isn't half-bad though it could use a little more fleshing out.

Here is where it takes a dip in quality.

This anime has an incredibly bad habit of using pointless, repetitive dialogue in order to pad it's runtime, making sure to end every episode on a cliffhanger.

Heavy dialogue isn't necessarily bad (and could be good if it did more for story and character development) but sadly, whoever wrote this slop took the Dragon Ball Z class of writing, where 90% of the dialogue is either completely pointless narration of events that the viewer can already see and doesn't need described, people shouting ... the skills/spells, or people screaming at the top of their lungs as they power up/attack. In any given episode, maybe 5 minutes of plot exists and the rest is filler nonsense listed above. And because there is so much filler nonsense, every single episode ends in a completely unnecessary cliffhanger.
