Boku no Hero Academia: More

This is the ending that BNHA needed. Those who felt unfulfilled from the way season 8 ended will likely get that fulfillment in this "bonus episode."

For those who read the final chapter of the manga this "episode" slightly expands on it. With some scenes, especially those that many would have felt "needed it", getting some nice additionals to them.


There's also a veritable buffet for the shippers and fanfic writers, with heavy to subtle suggestions on pairings, in some cases even insinuated by the characters themselves. And lots of yassification, for both guys and gals but especially of the guys. Who knew some of them ... could look so dadly?

The OP and ED also get a lovely lift with a complete rework of visuals using the same two songs we've all come to love.

When i say i loved it, i mean it for real.

i've been watching this since my 13 years of age, right now i am 23, i literally grew up with these guys

and seeing them bloom so beautifully, maintaining such beautiful relationships brings warmth to my heart

i love it so much, thank you horikoshi for your wonderful work, thank you bones, thank you voiceactors and thank you, the fans cause we kept on watching it, we kept on supporting it to the very end.

Boku no Hero Academia: More does sound like the true ending in case you feel something was missing from the final season.
This one focus on what Deku and all of his classmates were like as adult heroes as I enjoy seeing their hero duty. Just mostly a lot of talks about what they are doing in life and a few conclusions. Man I like seeing Deku in his iron man look like suit in action, was kind of short but he is a hero anyways.

I'm glad Midoriya and Uraraka connect with each other ... at the end, there's no reason for both of them to not go together when they understand and have feelings with each other. That's the only ship I care.

It would be a lot better if they adapted the extra chapter from the final fan book that shows the final hero rank. I felt a little disappointed that this episode didn't get it to say Deku's hero rank, so I find it unfair how they reveal everyone else rank and not him. Edited: (Ok ignore this line since it will be adapted later)

But ok yes, I do like it so do check it out.

Also stop thinking about someone who works at a fast food store, it's just an awful joke that really hurts the series and doesn't deserve to be funny.

This episode somehow managed to tie up the story while still feeling incomplete at the same time.

MHA is honestly one of my favorite recent anime, and while I didn’t hate the ending, it felt incredibly rushed and flat.
I think the ending had so much potential, but the execution leaves you with an empty, unsatisfied feeling instead of an impactful conclusion. Considering we’ve been with these characters for 170 episodes now (and the movies also) I feel like an extended finale episode would have really wrapped it up.
The best way I can put this is: this episode somehow managed to cover everything it needed to ... cover while still leaving you feeling like something important was missing.

I was hoping for an anime-extended version of this adaptation.

"My Hero Academia: More" is the adaptation of chapter 431 which was released with the final volume of the manga. Basically an additional epilogue where the cast are young adults showcasing their newer designs, hero names, and what or where many named characters are up to at the moment.

That's basically it. It's just another 23-ish minute episode of MHA and, as I've mentioned, I ended up being disappointed as I have already finished the manga and knew what to expect. I was hoping for a 40-ish minute episode where it shows even more of what the ... cast is up to and what problems they're facing in a post-Shigaraki world.

The episode itself is completely fine. It's good even. Unlike the ending to the final season of MHA, this episode is a 1:1 adaptation of the final chapter. Good art, good animation, good sound design, good voice acting, etc. I was just expecting a bit more.

Such a shame. Right ending, wrong execution making it feel like this is the shit we forgot a critical plot point ending, lets fix that real quick amd throw up one extra episode... after what +- 180 episodes this should've gotten the attention it deserved, a nice pretty bow to wrap it all up and its awesome they atleast did something, it just needed to be atleast an hour episode or movie in lengths worth to propperly give it the attention it needed because now it honostly falls flat and feels rushed which is a shame.

Funny enough even mal's own review requirements agree seeying appearently ... i need to add more while honostly there just ain't more to be said.

I feel like this episode really added to the ending the one thing that was missing from the ending of the anime, the idea of Deku and Ochako coming together at the ending and resolving their feelings for one another. Feelings that Deku may even have been unaware of. It's great to see that we get that as well as the fact that all the characters are essentially moving on with their lives and pursuing something. It gave this nice tiny bow for the ending that just felt right, and while there is another 10-page one-shot to add on to it. I still think this ... adaptation did what it was supposed to in providing us with MORE.

"Is that it?"

These were the three words that I found echoing in my mind over and over after finishing "My Hero Academia: More."

Now, just to get this out of the way, I don't dislike My Hero Academia. While I don't think it is as nearly as great as some people believe it to be, I also think it is far from being the scourge of modern shonen that others frame it to be. In my opinion My Hero Academia offers a stereotypical yet solidly executed action anime, which is really all I could ask it for.

Now, before I move onto this final episode of My ... Hero and why exactly I am not the biggest fan of it, I feel like it is only right to discuss the actual finale of the series shown in the final season. To put it simply, I liked it. While it wasn't anything too crazy and certainly could've been fleshed out a lot more, I felt that it was an overall solid way to end this show that defined a generation of anime. It had some good emotional moments and did a great job at really hitting you with the core themes and such of the series. So all in all, you could say I was pretty a satisfied with how My Hero concluded in its eight and final season.

But that, however, was not the end of the story. A little while later after finishing the final season, I got a notification on MyAnimeList that, surprisingly enough, actually got me pretty excited. A special epilogue episode for My Hero Academia? Sign me up! As I said before, the previous finale, while competent, could have been made a whole lot better with even just a little more fleshing out, so I was eager to see what this new ending had to offer. So me, being the faithful anime watcher I am, of course added the epilogue to my watchlist, and waited. And waited. And waited. And then, the finally episode aired. And it was.... fine?

To be honest, I could already tell that this episode was going to be a letdown after seeing that it was the exact same length as all the other episodes of the show (a little over twenty minutes). I'm not asking for an hour or anything crazy, but is twenty minutes really enough to tell a more satisfying and fleshed out ending? Short answer, no. No, it isn't. In fact, I wouldn't even really call this an epilogue, since this whole episode ends up feeling like a filler OVA more than anything. Any viewers hoping to learn more about what happened to the world of My Hero after All For One and Shigaraki were defeated will be sorely disappointed, as "My Hero Academia: More" seems much more determined to rather invoke as much nostalgia as possible by having as many characters show up as possible. This isn't a necessarily bad thing in and of itself, but the most you're going to be learning about who these characters are all these years later is really just their current hero rankings. A few snippets are dropped here and there of what exactly these characters are up to now, but it's mainly slim pickings all around.

This final episode wasn't all bad, however, as there were still things I enjoyed about it. The animation was as nice as ever, with the opening and ending songs from the final season returning for an encore performance. It's also worth mentioning that I quite enjoyed seeing a certain couple getting together (or at least hint at getting together) at the very end, which also might've been my favorite moment in the entire epilogue.

TL;DR & Summary: A mediocre epilogue that does not flesh out or improve upon the finale that preceded it in any way, "My Hero Academia: More" is "more" of a disappointment than anything.

It feels like the true last episode of Season 8. We got the "happily...". part of the ending in that season, but this episode here is the "...ever after."

It is truly terrific to see the kids of Class 1A grown and successful, and seeing how their interactions have matured or haven't. This episode focuses mostly on the main characters of the class, the ones we really followed from start to finish. We get to see their expanded ending, the epilogue that I didn't really think the story needed until I saw it.

The closest thing I can compare this to is the finale OVA of ... Steins;Gate. The similarity is that while the ending of the final episodes was good and felt like closure, the OVA finale feels like it truly completes that.

That said, this does just feel like another extra episode of the anime. It doesnt contain anything truly new or offer any kind of expanded context about the world or the story. It just feels like an epilogue to the series. One that I'm happy that I saw but one that you might not necessarily feel like the series needed. If you already weren't satisfied with how My Hero Academia ended, well I dont think OVA will change how you see it.

So, the tv special came out to end this series’ message and themes and while I think the last episode of the final season did that nicely, it did feel a bit abrupt. Like there was so much more I wanted to see, and more provides some insight into those things. First deku and uraraka’s relationship. It’s nice to see it gets touched on and provided an answer as to where they are going next. It was cute. But ultimately it ties together this larger aspect of wanting more aside from being heroes, or educating a new generation of heroes or trying to improve society. ... It’s nice that this almost has a self-contained message of being selfish, or thinking of yourself and what you want, especially when these characters are almost always selfless.

All in all, it was a nice addition to the anime and was a fun watch.
