This is peak. The art style, the animation, the sound design, the pacing, the comedy, the conflicts... All of it is peak.

I highly recommend giving the first episode a try. The premise is not, like I mistakenly thought, a weird fetish thing. It's unusual, but that only lets the author's creativity shine. And the premise is not the only interesting aspect of Ranma 1/2, all of the characters are unique and there are many fun and intriguing aspects to many of them.

I have not watched the original nor read the manga, an I find myself captivated by this anime every moment (it's a remake ... apparently).
The most difficult part in watching this is waiting for the next episode rather than watching the old version, for the pain of seeing the episode end is hard to bear.

Fresh off the coattails of the success of the amazing Urusei Yatsura remake comes Takahashi Rumiko’s latest “oldie but goodie”, Ranma 1/2. Even with just 12 episodes done, I can confidently say this is better in every way than the UY remake and is one of the best remakes of all time. High praise, I know, but it’s really how I feel. This show has perfectly captured the magic of 80s anime and brought it to the modern audience without compromising on what makes it great. For all the hype MAPPA get about their battle shonen adaptations, this is among the best work they’ve done ... and we’re only getting started. If you’re on limited time this season, this is one of the few shows you need to check out.

If there’s one thing Takahashi-sensei knows how to do, it’s write great character driven stories and cute romances. Ranma is where you really start to see that take shape in her work. My one big complaint with UY was Ataru not ever growing up and things staying stagnant for large portions of the series. It felt at times like we were running in a circle and getting nowhere. Opposite here. One cour in and I’ve already seen a ton of development from both of the main leads, episodes feel connected, romantic progression and frankly better mini-arcs. I don’t want to seem like I’m badmouthing UY, because I do love Lum and that story, but this is much more my speed. The relationship feels a lot more natural. Akane and Ranma bounce off each other so well and I love how they fight like an old married couple, but never stay mad at each other too long and will always be there for one another.

The main gimmick that makes Ranma 1/2 unique and the meaning behind the title is Ranma’s ability to go from boy to female with the splash of water. This is such a funny gimmick to me. It never felt forced or out of place and made so many scenes in the show hilarious. But more importantly, it’s a nice allegory for gender dysmorphia and another example of Takahashi sensei being ahead of the curve on things. From creating popular romcom tropes we see everywhere today like tsunderes, to being a trailblazer for lgbt representation, this woman’s impact can never be overstated. The transformation also serves a really cool narrative purpose as it allows Ranma to connect with Akane more intimately as a woman than a man at times. Akane has a lot of insecurity about her femininity that serves as a driving force behind her character development in this first cour, I really liked how she was able to take strides towards accepting herself more thanks to Ranma. Them starting out as sworn enemies and gradually becoming sweet on each other and not knowing how to act around one another is some of the cutest stuff I’ve ever seen. To me their relationship felt like watching little kids who don’t know how to express themselves so they just tease the person they like. Thankfully, it’s never excessive or cringe to watch here!

The other characters in this are also great! Supporting cast will also probably end up being better than Urusei Yatsura. You really just see a gradual evolution in Takahashi’s writing coming from her last work and that’s so cool to be able to retrace one of your fave creator’s path. Shampoo alone clears a lot of shows’ whole casts. Akane is going to have her work cut out for her in the second half. Ryoga is a riot and a nice rival for Ranma, as well as reminding me a lot of Koga from Takahashi’s most famous work, Inuyasha. Had no complaints with any of the cast really, even all the ones that came in for mini-arcs like the skating duo, or the ballet dancer, I need them all back in the future!

MAPPA get a lot of hype for the work they’ve done on big battle shonen series, but what they’ve done in this remake can’t be overstated. It looks gorgeous, the animation is awesome, direction is great and most important the soundtrack bangs. They got the Inuyasha series composer and I cannot tell you how excited I feel every week to just hear the music in this show and be transported back to the early 2000s. I’m not sure if he worked on the original series, but it definitely fits here.

Overall, Ranma 1/2 is an extremely promising start for what looks to be one of the best ever anime remake projects. Great production values, an amazing main couple, hilarious comedy that actually lands and some nice character development! If you’re a fan of any of Takahashi’s works, it’s a no brainer to check this out, or if you’re just looking for a new cute romance couple to get behind! Can’t sing enough praise about this show.

This reboot of Ranma ½ is truly a respectable work.

Although I have a personal preference for the charm of the classic anime from the 80s, this new adaptation is impressive! It's not perfect, but MAPPA should be congratulated for creating a version that is much more faithful to the manga. I would like the pace to be a little slower, but even so, it doesn't interfere with my experience.

For now, my rating is 10. I haven't watched anything as fun and funny as this anime recently. Although the soundtrack isn't as impactful as the original, the reboot has brought marked improvements, especially in the ... fluidity of the animation. And, as I mentioned, the fidelity to the manga has brought a leaner narrative, leaving aside unnecessary filler scenes and characters. In short, I'm loving this new experience and I can't wait to see what comes next!

This anime is so fun and light-hearted that I can watch no matter the mood I'm in.. just like Urusei Yatsura. Different production team with Urusei done by David Productions and this one done by MAPPA and I honestly can't tell the difference cuz how the adaptations translate for the modern anime landscape are done so well, quality in animations and sounds.. remarkable!! Except for the not-so-nude nude scenes/bath scenes, which I find odd cuz it there's an artform of hiding nude scenes with vapours, towels, hands, angles etc. it's the Japanese anime industry that are the best at it.
All in all, I'd HIGHLY recommend ... it to anyone who's also a fan of the Ms. Takahashi's works.. or just people who want a fun oldschool shonen-comedy.

In my opinion, Ranma 1/2 is an anime filled with nothing but trashy comedy and not at all funny. I didn't laugh at this anime at all. If you did, you probably have a very poor sense of humor. Almost all the characters feel stupid, and there's no meaningful development. There are many cliché scenes, such as the sudden appearance of a random character challenging Ranma to a fight based on his "skills," while the MC innocently and foolishly accepts it. For example, the ice skating scene is utterly absurd.

If you're hoping for romance, you'd better abandon your plans. The romantic element is barely noticeable; ... instead, it feels empty and forced. The character relationships are filled with angry girls who solve problems with punches, which are somehow considered funny, even though they're clearly not funny at all.

As for the action, even though this adaptation comes from a major studio like MAPPA, one of my favorite studios, the execution still feels mediocre. The story doesn't have a clear direction, and the scenes are repetitive to the point of being disgusting. There are actually many similar scenes in other anime, where villains appear one by one and are then defeated, similar to JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 3. The difference is that JoJo is still enjoyable because it has a unique and interesting power system (Stand), where the enemies come with different Stands and powers, referenced by tarot cards. This keeps us intrigued and anticipating what enemies and (Stands) will appear next. Ranma 1/2 lacks that same appeal. This format reminds me of the old patterns of '90s anime brought into the modern era, which I think is completely inappropriate for Ranma 1/2.

In conclusion, if you're looking for romance, comedy, or action, don't waste your time here. However, if you've watched the classic Ranma from the 1900s, this anime might evoke a bit of nostalgia, and that's its only plus.

The remake successfully refreshes the classic story without losing its essence, blending nostalgia with a vibrant, modern animation style that enhances the visual experience. While the plot remains predictable for fans of the original, the charm of the characters and the comedic scenarios make it just as entertaining, especially for those who enjoy action-comedy. The art style is spot-on, preserving Rumiko Takahashi’s aesthetic with updated details and colors, which amplifies both the humor and the fight scenes.

The characters stay true to their original personalities, but now with added nuances that give them more depth, especially in how they handle their dilemmas. Ranma and Akane, for ... instance, have natural, believable reactions within the context of their mishaps and curses, avoiding forced situations and striking a nice balance between comedy and humanity.

Overall, the remake appeals to both new viewers and longtime fans, respecting the original story while adding a visual quality that makes it worth watching. While purists might lean towards the classic version, this remake has enough quality and freshness to stand on its own.

Coming from someone who didn't find the original Ranma all that amazing, this remake so far is a considerable improvement. The pacing is a lot tighter, which really helps the story stand out more. The characters seem much better written this time around, particularly Akane. And it looks really nice too, possibly the best that anything from the series has ever looked.

All that said, this is still just the beginning of a series that likely doesn't have too many surprises up its sleeve for the remainder of its run. As the original went on, they never really did as much with its characters as ... they could have, only using them as they were needed for the plot and not really expanding them much beyond that. Not to mention how the original only adapted about 60% of the manga, leaving its ending and everything leading up to it unadapted. Some may have preferred a continuation instead of a remake, especially if they're going to take such long breaks between cours, but hopefully they'll get there eventually. Judging it so far, though, there's a chance that this is as good as the series is going to get. This is when the series still felt like it had potential, before establishing its full cast and just kinda stagnating them. Especially since you-know-who hasn't shown up yet, let's just enjoy what the series is like without him for the time being. But as a self-contained first impression, this is just about everything I could've asked for.

Given the whole gender-swapping aspect, there was the possibility that anything new would've modernized the material to make it align closer with modern sensibilities. In a way I'm glad it didn't, largely because the manga still needed a proper adaptation that it couldn't quite get at the time. But if you look back at the original, it isn't nearly as offensive as you might expect a show from the 90s would be at handling something like that. Obviously it's not trying to depict anything realistic, but compared to the average studio comedy coming out of Hollywood at the time, it's a lot more respectful than you'd think.

It is a little ironic how its first cour adapts the same chapters as the original's first season, where many people believe that show peaked. Considering how that was the point where it was cancelled and almost immediately revived as Netto-hen, a subtitle it would carry for the remainder of the series and one that absolutely nobody uses in conversation, many felt that was where the original dropped off a bit. The original director left, and his replacement never quite reached that same standard. Plus there was an exponential increase in filler, but now that the manga's a few decades behind us that's not something we should have to worry about. Still, there's that feeling in the back of my mind that history has been given the opportunity to repeat itself, but I have to trust that MAPPA know what they're doing this time around. Then again, this is MAPPA we're talking about, so we'll see.

I really can't say enough about how good this remake is. It takes the core experience of the old anime an completely reinvigorates it. All of the cartoonish action and plot elements of the original are here and better than ever, while the cartoonish relationship dynamics have been massively upgraded with truly excellent writing. In particular, Akane is... just... I want to say a new character, and that's really true, to a degree. She is obviously the same character in many ways, but in the first five episodes, she has been so sympathetically and relatably written that she kind of steals ... the show.

I also want to touch on the ecchi elements a little bit. These are a huge part of the original show's appeal. It's easy to fall into the trap of viewing them as crude fan-service. But, I think that does the original show a disservice. The show was always not-so-subtly a transgressive examination of gender identity and roles, and identity more broadly as well. The ecchi elements were a huge part of how the show pushed those elements into the forefront and explored them in a safe, cartoon-y way.

I was really worried that these elements would be completely neutered in the remake. Times have changed and all that. But if anything, the remake has seems to embrace the ecchi/gender elements of the original and doubled-down on the way that the situational comedy pushes those comfort zones.

This is a 5-episode in review, but I'm very confident after episodes 4&5 that they'll finish out the season strong.

I want to preface this by saying this review is written from the POV of an old fart who watched the OG Ranma ½ anime on live television in its heyday.

If you’re new to Ranma ½ and want to enjoy the newer generation of anime series (not this reboot, but everything else), do yourself a favor, do not watch this. Why? Because everything else pales in comparison. The storytelling, the voice acting, the animation - Ranma ½ is one of the few anime/manga series that actually has it all, be it comedy, romance, action, art, etc. It’s difficult to enjoy most shows nowadays because weebs ... put trashy anime on a pedestal resulting in poorer creativity and production in general, i.e. if garbage sells why bother? It’s especially rare to find an anime with emotional depth in the romance genre (I still get choked up when Akane got her bad ‘cut’ which had a bittersweet backstory; TikTok twerps would never understand) or an anime with decent jokes in the comedy genre where the punch line doesn’t involve human waste (*cough* Dandadan *cough*). Sorry kiddos, sometimes old does mean better. There’s no doubt why Ranma ½ remains to be Rumiko Takahashi’s best selling manga series of all time.

So how does this remake fare against the OG? Well the pacing is much faster which is more coherent with the manga, although I didn’t mind the slower pace in the OG with filler scenes/episodes as a die-hard fan (my only hope is that this reboot will be a faithful adaptation of most of the major arcs of the manga). First thing that jumped out regarding the remake was the color palette, which looked odd at times since I was used to seeing a red-headed female Ranma but Mappa turned the red into a pinkish color. The other complaint per the consensus seems to be about mildly censored nudity which is quite juvenile IMO - if you’re an older fan like me nipples or no nipples don’t make or break the series; if you’re someone who only cares about fan service and don’t mind a bland plot then you’re better off watching Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian or something along those lines (hint: if the title is long that’s a cue - shit blows). My main beef with the reboot is the mediocre music - background music in the OG was phenomenal in that it assisted in creating the atmospheric tone to the story/upcoming scenes about to occur, whereas the instrumentals in the remake are rather lackluster. However, Anta Nante as an ending theme is not bad - nothing can top the OG opening theme of Yappapa but that’s just my personal nitpick (did I mention this is my favorite series, for the nth time?). It’s true - one is the harshest critic for what matters to oneself.

The fact that Mappa picked this up is great and it shows in the animation. However to be fair, any studio would do for us old timers who have waited 30+ years for a reboot since the OG anime ended abruptly before the manga was completed; hopefully this remake will adapt most of the major arcs. It was practically a miracle that most of the OG VAs returned as well. I do think Kappei and Noriko’s voices have aged too much to sound like teenagers but thankfully their performances as Ranma and Akane, respectively, are still top-notched. Hats off to Megumi as female Ranma and Koichi as Ryoga (who are in their 50s and 60s, respectively) and sound just like they did over three decades ago. I still feel thunderstruck as I type this by the fact that Ranma ½ is back. We are BACK Kuno baby!!!

Bottom line: watch Ranma ½ if you haven’t already, but beware as your standards are about to be permanently altered and there’s no going back.

The original Ranma 1/2 from 1989 is one of the most iconic animes ever, that made and even helped make anime popular in the west. Even with that being said, it really needed a remake because the original never finished adapting the manga, plus it had a great deal of filler episodes, which COULD affect the pacing. Depending on who you are, you may hate or love filler episodes, but that's a different conversation entirely.

I always jokingly thought Ranma 1/2 was called as such because half of it was filler, and after watching a great deal of the remake, I've come to understand remakes ... can really add a necessary touch to something that was good, and expand on it to make it even better. And of course, this brings me to another big reason why anime remakes are so prevalent: Advancement in technology.

Honestly, modern day animation is incredible and I feel like a lot of people won't disagree with me there. But, I also feel like this is where the crowds begin to get a lot more "split". Yes, modern animation is nice, but you have to admit old animes really do have a vibe and feel unique to that time period, and it can be difficult to replicate that same feeling. A lot of people feel that with remakes, you lose a lot of stuff that makes the original unique. I also believe a lot of the negativity towards remakes comes from the inherent thought they're made to replace the original. However, the fact of the matter is the original will always be there. You can enjoy both the original and remake and have fun with the differences you can observe from both times.

If you like Ranma 1/2 in any shape of form, I'd seriously advise watching the remake, especially since this version will stay truer to the manga and you'll get to see it done in a new style, and it's a good thing to experience something new, even if you have to make room on the shelf of old relics.

I was always waiting for a reboot of Ranma 1/2 ever since I watch the original. The way the original ended left such a sour taste in my mouth due to the story being incomplete aswell as having lots of uninteresting filler. When I found out it was getting a remake, I was ecstatic. So far, I'm very pleased with it. The art style and animation are very nice to look at and also very fluid but it's really tough to beat the charm the original had. Totally a personal preference though. I think the new dub cast does a great job with bringing these ... characters to life, but if you're a sub-only type of person, then it won't be your cup of tea. I really appreciate the reliving of the original story but also I like the fact it's not a 100% re-polished copy of the original. All I can really hope for is that they complete the story for once by keeping filler to a minimum and focus on the main story material. I believe it can be done in a couple of seasons as opposed to the 160+ episodes the original series had. If you're a new viewer who hasn't seen the original Ranma 1/2, I encourage you to take a trip down memory lane and experience it. If you're not into a really long anime and you want something trimmed back for all the good reasons, definitely watch this reboot!

So far I'd give it an 8/10.



Update: Season 1 is complete, now we gotta wait for season 2. This season was a solid one! Makes me excited to see how many seasons they're going to do.

More seriously, this is a show which is certainly not for everybody. I found it quite decent but there are many impediments that certain types of people will not be able to hurdle which I will get into later on.

As for the basic aspects of the show they are very good. As with all good anime’s there is an Iconic opening and good music. Character design is varied and excellent, and there are few filler characters. Everybody is different and memorable. The art is very crisp, modern ... and beautiful. It’s very pleasant to look at the vast majority of times. There is this occurrence where the art style will suddenly switch to a much more stylistic or different one to emphasise action or things of the like. This switch is done so smoothly and expertly you barely notice it, as is the case with the animation more broadly. Very smooth and skill full. This technique adds an extra layer of quality and style to the show. If we remove the story from the equation, this show is really a demonstration of artist and animator skill. The casting and voice acting is also generally on point, and it’s clear there is an abundance of talent going into this anime.

Now getting into why some people love it and some people hate it. Ranma 1/2 is an anime without a single ounce of seriousness in it. There is no depth to the story (intentionally), there’s constant action with little logic and predictability. One battle is concluded and another starts immediately. It feels as though there are no breaks. Something odd I noticed though is that despite this, episodes feel much shorter than they are. Likely an indication of how the story is built. As I was saying about the story, it is intentionally designed to be unserious and goofy in its entirety — which for some people can really put them off. I wouldn’t indulge in this if you’re searching for meaning or impact from your media. The gender-swap trope can also be a bit repetitive and predictable at times. You’ve honestly got to wonder what goes on inside the heads of the people who write shows like this, but more than that, how an executive would look it over and approve it. I won’t say more than that, if you watch it you’ll get what I mean.

It’s as I’ve laid it out, you’ve got to know what you’re going to like before trying ranma 1/2, or you could be very disappointed. If you’re looking for an unserious natured goofy 12 episode art and character showcase, this is for you — and in that role it does quite well. If you’re okay with a lot of nudity/fanservice that is. If you’re otherwise searching for anything not explicitly this, you may be disappointed. You’ve been warned…or put on, depending on you.

Ranma ½ (2024) started off with a lot of charm — the animation update was clean, the nostalgic vibe hit the right notes, and the chaotic martial arts comedy initially worked well. I was genuinely enjoying the first few episodes and was hopeful for a fun, character-driven series.

However, things took a sharp turn for me with the introduction of a certain character who disguises himself as a pig to get close to the female lead, Akane. The fact that he purposely transforms into a pig and hides his identity just to share her bed, receive hugs and kisses, and watch her in private moments is ... uncomfortable. It felt inappropriate and out of place, especially in a show that leans heavily into absurd comedy.

What made it worse is that Ranma, who’s supposed to be Akane’s fiancé, knows about this and never does anything meaningful to stop it or tell her the truth. That kind of passivity from the lead felt frustrating and nonsensical. From what I’ve heard, this issue wasn’t even resolved properly in the manga — which only added to my disappointment.

It’s a shame, because the show had a lot of potential with its premise and cast. But when something played for laughs starts to feel more creepy than comedic, it becomes hard to enjoy the rest.

Ok, look. I know this is a beloved classic to a lot of people. I have no nostalgia for this series and previously only knew of it by name. If you've been enjoying it, I'm happy for you. I wouldn't dare ridicule someone for liking something I did not. So I hope you'll provide the same courtesy to me as I share my own thoughts. Ok? Ok... this is the worst anime I've ever seen in my entire life.

So ya know how my least favorite part of InuYasha was all the terrible ship dynamics and how all the couples had absolutely zero chemistry with ... one another and we were just expected to interpret their constant fighting as them conveying their feelings for one another? Imagine if they made an ENTIRE show about just that one concept. Every time, and I do mean EVERY TIME a new character got introduced, I was like "Oh, thank god! Hopefully this new character will provide us with some new storyline to focus on and the horrible interactions between Ranma and Akane can be sidelined for a while!" But no. Instead they make every single new character obsessively predatory towards one of the two main characters and aggressively jealous of the other one. Every. Single. Time.

The obliviousness of everyone not realizing Ranma or Ryoga's alter egos are also just unbelievably stupid. Not to mention that there's literally zero plot reason for them to hide their identities other than to repeat the same insufferable gags every stinkin episode. It's just nonstop love triangle after love triangle. And they're ALL awful. There's also a lot of very uncomfortable dialogue for LGBT viewers to listen to. I'm sure someone will defend it by saying it was a product of its time, but isn't the point of a remake to... REMAKE things for a modern audience? I really don't have much else to say. I hated every second of it. I have no clue how long this remake will last, but I hope I'll have at least ONE good thing to say about this series when all is said and done.

i watched this show twice in hopes of making a proper, enticing review. but i don't think i possess the pretty words to will you into watching it

so instead, i'll just tell you what it made me feel — spoiler free — and let you decide for yourself if you'd like to feel something similar

here's the bottom line, potential reader: i like this show. i like it a whole bunch. it made me feel happy, and it made me laugh. several times! whilst being alone in my room! at 5 am! it's great!

much like many great pieces media, it timewarps you back to a period ... of your life that was miserable in real life, and gives you a welcome little 'what if' ponderstorm. i wish my schooldays were that colorful. i wish i took martial arts during my formative years. i wish i talked to a girl i liked. i wish i was emotionally sensible enough to notice when i was wrong, and brave enough to admit it.

so watch this show. allow yourself to feel all the feelings. laugh. be slightly smitten. be reluctantly heartfelt. be sad. laugh again. enjoy.

and you know what? maybe even decide that it's not too late to do something, right now, for current you — something that future you would wish teen you had done.

PS it's really heckin pretty

This is the adaptation Ranma needed in the first place. It has been almost EXACTLY accurate to the original manga.

People complaining that the original is better are only right in TWO aspects: music and art direction. Because other than those, the original constantly mischaracterizes characters, adds scenes that weren’t there(that change how the audience thinks characters feel about each other) and doesn’t even adapt the whole manga! Which HOPEFULLY the remake can do!

This remake really captured Rumiko’s late 80s to early 90s style as well as her crazy characters and wacky story arcs! The voice actors returning to their roles warmed my heart, and I’m ... so glad I get to see Ranma and Akane again, this time, portrayed more accurately! There’s not much more I can say besides that I love this series and I hope it continues and adapts the whole manga

One thing I wished the remake had is stronger colors, the ones they used are a little dull! I would have loved if they went with bright colors like the Urusei Yatsura remake or with the ones used in the original. I’m also not a fan of the purple shading they occasionally use in fight scenes.

If you want to see two silly idiots slowly fall for each other without realizing it, you should totally give this a watch! Like many Rumiko Takahashi stories, the overall story is about accepting a person for who they are, without needing to change them to be normal ♥️

Such a charming anime! I've enjoyed every second of it and was very invested by the end of the season. I was never acquainted to the manga or original anime until now, though I've known a few of Rumiko Takahashi's work since forever. But as with the urusei yatsura modern adapatation I discovered a new aspect of her universe other than her fiery action mangas.
I did read some review of og fans being quite disappointed with the adaptation but I can say, as a new viewer, that it works perfectly as an introduction. I must also have been in the right mindset, it was ... just the romance anime I needed, lighthearted, absurdely humorous and enjoyable characters that have great chemistry.
It's quite a simple story with no real overarching plot but I feel some depth to the characters and their complicated relationship that reminded me of why rumiko is great at getting readers invested in her romances despite being the reaaaaallly slow burn-type.
The stars of the show to me really are Ranma and Akane, they are really fun to root for, individually and together. I can't wait to see more in season 2!
(Also, I really liked the VA works and despite having no nostalgia for it, discovering some of them were the OG one was really fun, makes me also want to check out the first anime)

A Fresh Yet Nostalgic Masterpiece

I started watching Ranma ½ years ago, and returning to it through the remaster feels like rediscovering an old friend with a fresh look. The remaster doesn’t just clean up the visuals, it revives the heart of the series in a way that feels respectful to the original while making it accessible for modern audiences.

The updated color palette, character designs, and overall art style are absolutely stunning. They’ve managed to preserve the charm of the original while adding a fresh vibrancy that makes each scene pop. The comedic timing and pacing are tight, energetic without being overwhelming. It’s fast-paced but never ... loses the emotional core or comedic brilliance that made the series so beloved.

What I especially appreciated is how the remaster balances modernization with nostalgia. The fight scenes are dynamic, with an almost painterly, pinkish visual flair that brings a unique aesthetic to the screen. The music is another highlight, modern and high-quality, but it still evokes the retro vibes of the '80s setting.

The core relationships, especially between Ranma and Akane, are portrayed with such raw authenticity. Their love doesn’t feel forced or performative, it’s messy, deep, and real, which is rare in today’s overly polished romances. The show’s humor and its love triangles are still sharp and entertaining, blending absurdity with emotional sincerity.

Some have commented on the controversial aspects or outdated views in Ranma ½, but it’s important to remember the context, it was a product of the '80s, often satirical, and in many ways a commentary on gender roles and social norms. While not perfect, the remaster appears to be more mindful of those elements, toning down some of the fanservice without losing the charm or humor.

I also want to shout out the English dub ❤️ it’s genuinely enjoyable, with voice acting that suits the tone and characters really well.

All in all, Ranma ½ Remaster is a joyful return to one of anime’s most iconic series. Whether you're a longtime fan or a newcomer, there’s something to love here. It’s funny, nostalgic, modern, and meaningful all at once. For me, it’s a masterpiece that still stands the test of time

RANMA 1/2 remake 2024 had a decent amount of buzz after its release. Its thye remake of the 1989 and manga made by one of the most legendary mangakas, Rumiko Takahashi. Few of her famous work also consist of inuyasha, urusei yatsura.
Personally i havent come across any of her work until now, so i have never seen the original series to compare both. So i can only judge ranma based on the remakes quality.
The shows art style and animation of it are splendid to say the least. The 80s retro style mixed in with the modern flashy colour set. Mappa did a good job ... in the animation department and by keeping the retro style.
Music is decent its not fantastic nor bad. I sort of liked the outro and non of the bgm stood out to me.
The story uses the concept of sex shift, like when your body changes into a boy to girl like that. And revolves around ranma and akanes life of being engaged but because their families forced them into. Its a lot like nisekoi and few others which revolve around fake or forced relationships.
So what is that ranm excels at?. Its comedy is decent the show can get a few laughs out of you, besides that the action and quirky side characters who are there to either take the main cast closer or to just make as laugh. The romantic development so far is satisfactory and the show does a good job at getting you engaged. The story so far has nothing that can be considered mind bending or philosophical, and is perfect for a show one can watch when looking for a rom com with action and a satisfactory development.
