Synopsis

Elle Nagahara is a first year in high school. Her grandfather and his rival, later friend made a promise, that their kids would get married. But they both had sons, so now the promise falls for the grandkids, Elle and Ruo. Ruo wants to marry Elle, but Elle want's a normal life. Everytime she falls for a guy, her grandfather sends few students from his gym to scare the guy off. It worked on every guy, untill Kazuki Shindo.

It's a cute story, really. You totally fall in love with Elle right away.

Granted, this manga is only three volumes, so the next bit shouldn't be surprising buuuuuut. . .

It definitely ended too quickly. It feels extremely rushed. I mean. . . the ending itself is befitting and I don't feel overtly disappointed at how it is. . . it was just too fast. I think there coulda been a bit more. . . five volumes would have been totally appropriate with the right amount of filler and not much more drama. . .

The story has a lot of inconsistencies. If Elle really dislikes martial arts, she would have some deep reasons, not just because she has to clean the gym. Cleaning the gym is not a valid reason to hate martial arts; that would only make someone dislike cleaning, not combat sports. And the characters don't have enough personality. Elle, Kazuki, Ruo, and the other characters are all Mary Sues and Gary Stus since I can't even name 3 traits about them if I don't include appearances, relation to other characters, and stuff like that. The story contains numerous inconsistencies. If Elle genuinely dislikes martial arts, her reasons should be more profound than simply having to clean the gym. Disliking cleaning doesn't equate to hating combat sports. Additionally, the characters lack depth; Elle, Kazuki, Ruo, and the others come off as one-dimensional, as I struggle to name three distinctive traits about them aside from their appearances and their relationships with others. Elle's sole aim of finding a boyfriend detracts from the martial arts theme in Punch, similar to how the romantic subplot overshadows the basketball narrative in Girl Got Game.


It's also ridiculous that Kazuki's dog, Choppy, resembles Elle so ...
