Ponkotsu Fuuki Iin to Skirt-take ga Futekisetsu na JK no Hanashi

Ponkotsu Fuuki Iin to Skirt-take ga Futekisetsu na JK no Hanashi is an anime about two types of people, one that I unconditionally love and one that I generally hated in middle school.

I know this is a high school story, not a middle school one, but my high school life was just me staring at my laptop monitor, so pardon me for the unfair comparison.

So, on one side we got Poem, a girl who is just loosely following the rules, always trying to find a way to slip through, generally harsh and preferring to express her affection or aggression in physical form, but all in ... all she is genuinely caring, kind, and very considerate of people's feelings. This is the type of person that I always considered "fun" and almost always unconditionally love.

On the other side we got someone like Tougo, a super strict, by the book person where everything always has to be done by the rules, the type of person who would come to your desk yelling "uHm WoMeN sHoUlDn'T sIt LiKe ThAt" or "yOu CaN't SwEaR hErE, i'M gOnNa TeLl ThE tEaChEr," and generally very inconsiderate of other people's feelings, just blurting everything out without a filter. This is the type of person that usually spikes my blood pressure.

But this anime actually made me understand and kind of feel bad for them. I don't know if it's because Tougo is depicted in a much better light or if it's just because I’ve grown older and now understand that school rules are made for a reason, and people who uphold them sometimes genuinely want the best for others.

It made me realize that people like him have a certain upbringing that makes them the way they are, and sometimes they do it for your sake. It made me empathize with them, and I genuinely like and enjoy Tougo as a character.

At the same time, it also reminded me why I liked someone like Poem so much, how they gave color to my teenage years, how they made me laugh, how fun it was to be around them, and how despite their brashness, they still had a cute and loving side. It also reminded me how lucky I was to ever get to know people like them.

Despite this anime being an over-the-top romcom where every character trope is cranked up to the stratosphere, it still succeeds in showing how fun and good things were back when we were still in school. Watching this show makes me a bit mad that my entire high school life was snatched away from me.

The comedy in this anime is not everyone's cup of tea for sure, where the majority of it comes from characters yelling and acting in a slapstick-y manner. Like I said, it's an over the top romcom.

But at the same time, it has such sweet, honest, and heartwarming scenes that I can't help but think that the author was raised in a good household while being surrounded by people who are just as good.

While I mentioned that this anime is about two types of people, there are actually more than two...far more than just two. And while the majority of anime like this tend to have side characters that are less interesting than the main ones, here they are equally interesting.

And since "short skirt" is in the title, expect some tasteful shots of thighs, so yeah, this anime has a bit of fanservice.

The art style is clean and above average. The opening and ending songs are bangers, and so is the animation.

Overall, I have zero complaints about this anime. I love it, and I hope you will too.
