The big highlight here is that the story evolves... yes, it evolves.

Generally, romances tend to drag on or get straight to the point in the first season, but here the story unfolds slowly, almost as if one leg is asking permission from the other to walk, but it moves forward, and the moments make it clear that the climax is coming and is inevitable, but it won't be rushed. I'd say there's a certain realism there, since there are budding couples who don't rush into the act, but they enjoy each other, enjoy the moment ... together, and that's something that warms the heart. The difference here is that the comedy is much more present, unlike the first season which was almost absent. I'd say this is natural since the couple has loosened up and now socializes more, so it's normal to have comedic moments, and this might not please everyone. The animation maintains the same quality as the first season; those who saw the first season almost have to watch the second, but those who liked the serious atmosphere of the plot might not enjoy the second season since it's more comedic.

People call The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten “boring” because it doesn’t have cheating, manipulation, forced breakups, or ten different love triangles every five episodes.
And honestly? That says more about this generation than the anime itself.

People are so emotionally hollow now that they mistake toxicity for depth. If two people simply love each other gently, support each other, cook for each other, blush around each other, and slowly become each other’s reason to smile… suddenly it’s “low writing.”
But let the story have a trash MC crying over rented girlfriends and endless drama like Rent-A-Girlfriend and everyone calls it “realistic.”

Love was never supposed to be ... constant suffering.

This anime understands something modern romance stories forgot completely:
love is in the little things.
The awkward silences.
The shy glances.
Cooking food because you care.
Waiting for someone to come home.
Protecting each other without needing applause for it.
Slowly becoming part of someone’s everyday life.

Amane and Mahiru don’t need cheap drama to prove their love. Their love feels alive because they cherish each other. Every blush feels real. Every quiet moment feels warm. Every interaction feels like two lonely souls slowly healing each other without even realizing it.

And maybe that’s why some people hate it.
Because peace looks “boring” to people who only understand chaos.

I’m tired of people pretending romance needs betrayal and emotional damage to be meaningful. Sometimes peak romance is just two innocent people falling deeply in love and being each other’s comfort in this miserable world.

This anime doesn’t scream.
It whispers.
And somehow those whispers hit harder than every overdramatic romance combined.

For me, this isn’t just a romance anime.
It’s a reminder that love can still be soft.

Yup, this is really not it. Normally I'm all for sweet romances, I can sit down and watch a romance with nothing special happening in it completely fine. Hell, even just an anime with nothing happening in it. But this? This is a completely different level of nothingness, it's like they found a worse definition of the idea of adding literally nothing to your anime.

Let's start with the friends. They add literally 0 watch value to this show. Their entire existence is to talk about Shiina. That's it. That's the character. "Wow! You must really like Shiina!" is about the most that they can say. ... Conversations about anything other than Shiina are banned in their world. You know those commentators who literally add nothing to the match? "He passes the ball" yeah thanks mate couldn't see that myself.

Oh, and the spoiler warning button? It has 0 purpose here because there is genuinely nothing to spoil. "The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten." Sorry, completely wrong title, because the entire next door thing and the spoiling have both been thrown out the window. I mean yes I guess you could say that it has become the norm, but come on, she just sits in his apartment doing a whole lot of nothing. She literally only cooks and clean, since apparently that's the one narrative they decided to keep alive from S1. Because why develop the relationship further when you can just keep Mahiru as Amane's live-in maid. Iconic commitment to the bit.

And speaking of Amane, he isn't exactly pulling his weight either. The guy barely has a personality outside of "I like Shiina and I am surprised that Shiina likes me back." Every single episode. That's the arc. Him being surprised. ChatGPT with about 0 personality has more personality than Amane. You'd think after being in an actual confirmed relationship the shock factor would wear off at some point, but no. He's still out here in disbelief that he has a girlfriend.

If anyone wants to keep up with the episodes even when they aren't out yet, I got an amazing solution for you! Just go outside and stalk a random couple. Nearly the same entertainment value, and at least the location changes.

Now, pool episode. It's only the third episode. Only the third. And yet here we are. And it's not even good, it's just obvious bait to get more people to buy their 100$ Shiina figurine. Because why develop your characters when you can just develop the merch line instead!

And then there's the animation. Look, they technically improved it from S1. The colors are a tad softer, it's a little bit rounder, a touch warmer you could say. But "better than a show that completely fell apart visually by its last few episodes" is not the bar I'd be celebrating. That is literally the equivalent of saying your second car crash was less bad than the first one. It still looks exactly like what it is: a show that is putting in the bare minimum to get the job done and move on.

I do understand I shouldn't expect them to start learning magic and fight the demon lord. But I do expect a little bit of depth in their relationship at some point. Some growth, some conflict, something. Anything. And no I'm not expecting a whole ass war in the first 3 episodes, but like at least add something to their relationships instead of making it a blush fest.

So why do I rate it a 6? Based on this review it should be a 1. But I do have to give credit where it's due. The genre is Otonari-kei, meaning the entire point of the light novel was to make people feel lonely, and it does that pretty well. The real problem is that season 1 leaned into the light drama a little too much, to the point where now that they're together there's nothing left to pull from. The tension is gone, the drama is, guess what? Gone, and apparently the plot went with it. While clearly a lot of people don't mind that, I personally just don't see any watch value to it. And hey, I watched the first season and I really enjoyed it, I'm not saying this out of pure hatred for the show, because I truly did enjoy it and was excited for the second season.
