Otaku ni Yasashii Gal wa Inai!?

Just when I thought I had already found my favorite romcom this season, another strong contender showed up and basically said, “WAIT, check this out.”

A kind gyaru, or two, paired with an otaku in a friendship-to-romance setup is nothing new in anime. It is a trope that has been done to death. Truly a tale as old as time. Sometimes it is straight cheeks, but most of the time it is some gourmet shit.

And yeah, this one is definitely gourmet shit.

The story itself is very simple. It is a feel-good tale about two gyarus being kind ... and welcoming toward our otaku MC. So yeah, the title is lying. Gals can be kind to otaku. Now, I do not know if it is the most realistic interaction. I can confirm the “tale as old as time” part, but I cannot fully vouch for the “true as it can be” part.

Still, this is a feel-good romance, and feel-good romance is good because it makes you feel good. In my honest opinion, a romcom without dragged-out, overly complicated drama is the superior way to tell a love story. And in this anime, just watching three genuinely lovable people bond over shared interests, knowing that bond will slowly turn into something romantic, gives this warm, fuzzy feeling in my chest.

Also, from all the anime I have watched this season, I have yet to find an MC that is outright bad. Thankfully, Seo does not break that streak. Even though he is an otaku, he is not portrayed as some pathetic sore loser who only drags the mood down. Instead, he is a shy and awkward guy who is deeply passionate about anime, and honestly, it is hard not to like him.

Now the animation, it goes fucking hard. I keep wondering if the manga this anime was adapted from is insanely popular or something, because I had never even heard of it. But the studio clearly dumped a serious amount of money into this production. Like holy shit, there are scenes that genuinely left me mesmerized.

The OP song is chef’s kiss. The opening monologue hits perfectly, and the animation sequence is just stunning. It is bright, vivid, and bursting with color.

Overall, this anime is a must-watch for any romance fan. It is easily top-tier in the genre. It has that “got me smiling and shit” energy all the way through, and it honestly makes me very salty knowing my chances of experiencing something like this in real life are already gone.

I have to say, I haven't seen a show as truly GOOD as this one in a long time. Most shows in this vein tend to get ridiculous, but so far this one has won hands down. The story is cute, and the girls are really well done! The brunette is GORGEOUS!

Otagal has very pleasant graphics, two different but adorable girls, and the MC isn't a loser, but a perfectly normal Otaku who goes to school. He's not made fun of, there's no toxicity, just lots and lots of love! Watch it, it's worth it. 8/10 so far, and if you look at the ratings ... and what I usually watch, you'll believe me!

Otagal is great and interesting with a cool idea, it is fun and lighthearted but would have been better if tthe romance aspects were kept to a minimum as it seems that this might turn into a two girls love the same guy. It would have been more enjoyable if they focused in the friendship aspect with both more instead of it turning into a romance competition. The art is cute good for a series like this, and the characters are not too deep but to be fair there are only 4 episodes out already. To be honest anime like this dont have to be ... too "deep" or anything, the scenes and chharacters are mediocre but thats okay as this anime doesnt seem like a deep story or deep meaning, it is just a fun anime with an interesting concept, nothing more nothing less. Overall it is enjoyable, fun, and not too deep.
