Synopsis

By the 2020s, cars with internal combustion engines have largely been phased out, replaced by self-driving electric and fuel cell vehicles instead. Though these fossil fuel-running cars are at risk of disappearing completely, a dedicated group in Japan known as the MFG strives to maintain interest in them through road races streamed online. With 10 billion yen at stake and more than three hundred drivers competing, only the Godly Fifteen—the top 15 racers in the circuit—have a chance at advancing and taking the coveted prize.

Fresh off a plane from England, 19-year-old Kanata Rivington is eager to take on the fourth installment of the MFG competition. Trained at an elite driving school in his home country, the half-Japanese driver vies for the competition's top spot in his hand-me-down Toyota 86 GT. Despite the disadvantages that come with a dated car, the newcomer is determined to become one of this year's Godly Fifteen.

Kanata adopts his father's last name, taking on the moniker "Kanata Katagiri." Conquering the Japanese racing circuit is only a stepping stone towards his real goal: discovering the whereabouts of his missing father.

STREET RACING/ INNOCENT PURE LOVE?

Cars Engines ROOM ROOM ROOM ROOOOOOM, BURRRRR, SCREECH, ok this sums up what you are going to see most of the time. Lol

Minor Spoiler:
As a sequel to "Initial D", "MF Ghost" takes place when Takumi is a middle-aged uncle ;( Kanata, the apprentice of Takumi, decides to challenge the street racing culture in Japan. And of course, to spice things up, girls are included in this manga. I mean cars and girls are perfect combo... I think? ;)

Mf ghost was supposed to be the successor to Initial D, a manga and anime series that's really popular in Japan and around the world due to it's great races and ost (Obviously the ost part is just for the anime adaptation), however, it fails miserably in trying to take it's appeal further.
First, the characters are even weaker than the ones in Initial d. Great characters was never the strong point of the series but Mf ghost throws any bit of what Initial d had of good in the trash, most of the characters are flat and lack depth for the series to focus exclusively ...

Boring romance story that takes place in the same universe as Initial D. All the epic 1-on-1 battles are missing in this series. What we actually get are a dozen nobodies fighting for poll positions. It's completely missing all the fun character reactions that made the original Initial D so great. They even set up this elaborate thing with drones and yet they don't even show the spectators. They couldn't even be bothered to draw announcers. The "spectator" is literally a stock image of some dudes drinking in a bar... I really have no idea what they were thinking with this series.
