Mata Korosarete Shimatta no desu ne, Tantei-sama

From what I could tell, the original source material was adapted to a manga, but it was short and incomplete, adapting only two cases, first one being the same as the anime, the boat mystery and the other one taking place in a hotel, which might be the next episode. The manga wasn't that bad, it did have the mystery permeating the atmosphere, but somehow, the anime lost it quite early.

First episode was ok, cliffhanger was dog shit, second episode was mid, but somewhat ok-ish, but the last one damn terrible, there was NOTHING on it to make the series move, it's like, the MC ... always gets killed accidentally just because he has the power to revive, ending up being used more in a comedic relief of sorts than actually useful on the cases. Also seems to be going to a harem thing? with villains and heroines maybe? dunno, don't like it.

I did read the really short manga out there, the second case was actually decent, I'll try and keep up, but man oh man, might be *one* of the many disappointments for this season.

So, as of now, can't really recommend it

After having watched so much seasonal isekai and fantasy slop, I was looking for something different, that might have a bit of depth to it. I was therefore more than interested when I saw this pop up on my feed and after I read the blurb.

A detective that can return from death in order to solve cases? It certainly has that sci-fi or supernatural sound to it.

However, does this compare to PsychoPass? Hell no. Does it compare to ID:Invaded? Also hell no. What about something like Moriarty The Patriot? Yet again, hell no.

This show actually has more in common, in my mind at least, ... with the aforementioned isekai/fantasy slop than it does any good detective or drama anime. After watching 3 whole episodes, it's more like I'm watching a typical high-school romcom or harem show, than anything that could be meaningfully considered a "detective show".

MAL does list it as Mystery / Romance, but so far at least, that description is using the loosest definition of "mystery" possible.

Each episode, thus far, is about 3/4 the MC flirting or being clueless around cute girls with the tsundere-type sidekick girl being jealous, while the other 1/4 is almost fanfic-level writing by someone who read 3 pages of Sherlock Holmes and thought they could reproduce it.

It's hard to give an example without just spoiling it, but at one point, it's like "OMG MC you murdered that guy, you murderer!", "Ah, well, you see, I can't have done, because I'm still alive!", "Oh my, you're right! Please go and find the actual killer!".

You might think I'm exaggerating there, but I'm really not.

So, what's left is the "romance" and, as alluded to, it's very high-school cringe level. A lot of awkward flirting, blushing and what-not, with, again, the sidekick being jealous of the MC daring to even talk to another female.

Preliminary opinion is that this show is just bad. I guess one redeeming quality is that the girls are cute, although the actress girl reminds me of Ye Shunguang from Zenless Zone Zero, in both looks and the fact she's all over the MC from day 1.

4/10. Not Recommended. It's definitely not a good detective/drama show, and it's barely passable as a rom/rom-com.

Unusual gimmick, but nah, this ain’t it chief, find yourself another mystery show.

When watching a mystery anime with a detective main character, you’d expect it to have mystery elements. This here can hardly be called a mystery, there’s been detective shows with unrealistic gimmicks that make them work, Detective Conan is the prime example. However this show’s gimmick is just an excuse to kill the main character every episode for no actual reason other than it’s the gimmick. Let’s be real, it would get annoying but be tolerable if the gimmick wasn’t backed up by essentially non existent mystery and non existent deductions. More than ... half this show isn’t even mystery or intelligent deduction, it’s just romcom between high school aged characters and the MC finding a new girl every 2 minutes because why not. There was maybe one barely passable case the first episode and that’s it, and even then most of the actual mystery and deduction was glossed over, leaving us with just the surprising conclusion with hardly any build up or info for to figure it out from ahead of time, not what you’d call mystery.

I would’ve loved to continue watching this show, I’m a sucker for Mystery after all, but this ain’t it. Please save yourself the trouble and watch something else.
