Kanojo, Okarishimasu 5th Season

I must say I'm absolutely and completely flabbergasted by this show. Flabbergasted because I don't know on which person to put the blame on (the main writer of the anime or the mangaka), but...this season keeps on being very well written and entertaining like the previous ones were, despite the (completely nonsensical) hate this show gets online, particularly by people who should love it instead (I'm talking in particular about the Konosuba fandom). The soap-opera drama in this show is very entertaining despite being the same thing over and over and over and over, so much entertaining that not only reminds me of the best ... of my favourite tokusatsu writer Toshiki Inoue (I even had Mechanical Violator Hakaider vibes in episode 4) but it's actually more entertaining than the current Kamen Rider written by a person (Yuya Takahashi) who is a Toshiki Inoue wannabe and is behind my second favourite Kamen Rider of all times, the Geats, as proven by the fact that I've been watching Kamen Rider Zeztz and the episodes of this season side by side and lately I've been bored to death by the former whereas the latters have entertained me immensely, like it happened yesterday night with their respective last offerings. And, as a person who has supported Zeztz from the very beginning buying its henshin belt just to support it (I know the guidelines of the reviews state to not speak of personal experience, but it's simply to make you understand how this show in reality is so good it trumps money given for simple passion), I find laughable that a show promoted thanks to the wave of hate people throw at it is actually better than something this reviewer spent big money on. Concerning the characters, they're more or less the same of the previous seasons except for Mami assuming the role of the villain, and her new role is again very well written and developed, which again is a testament to how the ones writing it know what they're doing and they do it well. Also the fanservice of the main ladies is still there and kicking like the animation and the seiyuu performances of all parties involved are still top notch, so you're safe even from those points of view.
I can't recommend enough this show like I fully recommend supporting it in terms of merch too.
As a side note, please give to either the mangaka or the main writer of this show the keys of a Kamen Rider or a Super Sentai (when Toei will inevitably revert back to them after the fiasco that wlll end being Gavan Infinity), with repetitious by nature shows like those they could do EXTREMELY well.

In my opinion it’s pretty obvious the paradise arc is where Reiji just started making stuff up as he went along.

The first 18 volumes are pretty good sure they have the usual problems that plague this series but it blew up because of them. There is actually a relatively tight plot and it’s pretty decent the climax in the movie arc is very solid and each time the format starts to get stale a new character is introduced to keep your interest. Starting with the paradise arc though the format just kinda stagnated and it feels very disjointed compared to what came before.

I ... think Reiji likely had everything planned out up until this point the movie arc was likely where it was supposed to end originally but then the series made a lot of money and he kept going. This arc reminds me of “Emily in Paris” it’s basically an ad with a loose plot constructed around that feature in fact moving forward there is lot more moments that feel like an ad disguised as genuine plot.

Now that I mentioned it this story is very similar to “Emily in Paris” it has a creative premise, decent to good start that gradually devolves into an aimless pursuit of true love while littered with ads for luxury products.

If anything, I'm glad I was able to write another review because this anime deserves a raw and unfiltered review. Rent a girlfriend is everything wrong with "romance" anime.

This season somehow reaches a new low, by making Mami become the main antagonist for no reason whatsoever. As if to add insult to injury, the author, Reiji then pulls the "she may still like Kazuya trope" as a way to invalidate the whole essence of her desire to "call out ... the truth". It's horrible writing.

Mizuhara is such a loser. I don't care what anyone has to say. She keeps up a lie and even escalates it to the point of kissing Kazuya in front of his family and friends. I mean, what is wrong with this woman? These guys have had so many chances to end this and she still continues the lie. She's broken every rule her contract says BTW and she can't decide whether she likes Kazuya or not. I think she may have had a lobotomy when she was a child.

Kazuya sucks. Plain and simple. He can't fess up the courage to have a conversation with Mizuhara ever and spends so much time having the most pointless internal dialogues ever. (A bit off topic but still annoying, they decided to draw and animate him getting an erection from the kiss. Like what are we doing?)

Ruka is not best girl, I'm sorry. She's psychotic. She's obsessed with a guy who doesn't even like her and blackmailed him in order to date him which is funny because now that the secret is out, she has no leverage. Like what type of degradation kink does this girl have and why is she still in the story?

Kazuya's family are just as moronic as he is. They reveal that they've been lying to you this whole time, and you forgive them just like that because of some nonsensical story that they started dating before the trip? Are you guys okay in the head?

Final thoughts:

I mean, there isn't much else to say in regard to this diabolical series. I hate everything about it and I'm only watching it because my brother will not let me drop this shit. I'm tired, man.
