Kanan-sama wa Akumade Choroi

Kanan is a demon who descends upon the human world with one goal: to feast on the sweetest delicacy of all—young human souls. Disguised as a high schooler, she sets her sights on her first target, an unassuming boy named Youji Kyougi. But just as she prepares to claim her meal, things take a very unexpected turn.

Instead of devouring him, Kanan ends up forming a "romantic contract" with Youji. For someone who's lived for millennia without experiencing love, navigating high school romance proves more terrifying than any hunt. Between awkward dates, hand-holding mishaps, and feelings she can't quite name, the once-proud demon finds herself flustered at every turn.

Preliminary (3/12 eps)

It's been a long time since I laughed so much at the first episode of a seasonal anime.

If I could summarize the first episode in one sentence it would be: "The meat fell on the carnivore's plate," all that was missing was the protagonist saying "itadakimasu" before getting to the climax, it would make a great ecchi. The story is fast-paced but it's a rhythm that's easy to follow. The protagonist is a complete airhead with childish malice, but that gives her a really cool comedic touch. The maid is the voice of the "little devil" in her ear and she likes to watch the ... circle burn and makes sure to throw gasoline on the situation. I hope the pace continues like this.

Story
Sadly, there is absolutely no actual romance in this anime. Instead of a cohesive story, each episode feels like an excuse to generate six to eight short ecchi or comedy clips designed specifically to be spammed on social media platforms. If you are wondering whether you should start watching because you saw some funny moments online, don't bother—you have basically already watched the best parts of the show. Outside of those specific clips, the episodes have absolutely nothing interesting to offer. It is just blatant clip farming rather than actual storytelling.

Visuals
For a romance anime, the visuals are thoroughly mediocre. The level of detail and the ... quality of the animation are just "okay"—neither terribly bad nor particularly good. Most of the time, you are just looking at a typical, generic anime high school setting without much detail or anything that elevates the visuals above average.

Conclusion
Is it worth watching? If you are here because the online clips looked funny, I am sorry to say that clip farming is the only thing this anime actually does, which is exactly why I cannot recommend it. There is zero plot progression, and let's be honest, by episode 12, the characters will be in the exact same place they were at the start of the show. It probably won't even get a second season, because there are only so many times you can repeat the exact same joke and expect people to keep laughing.

I'd like to say that I want to give this anime a chance, but oh my goodness, is it bad.

This anime is why you do not trust a studio's name and voice actors' talent unless you see the actual production staff behind a work. Dismiss it as elitist as you may, but Mistress Kanan is another joke of a romcom made to pad out time with some of the worst jokes and dynamics I've seen for a romcom. Mistress Kanan leans towards the "We are not lovers, but more than friends" route as usual for the subversion, but once that hook is done, it immediately ... devolves into a very tame and shallow romcom with extrapolated gags made only for the sake of comedy rather than building chemistry.

There's only so much that a voice actor/actress can do to elevate a role that is doomed from the beginning, and I am so polarized with Kanan's character. Her whole character is a recipe for disaster. Despite her seductive nature for being a succubus as established in the narrative, it's merely a gimmick that's meant to pull off another random BS that wants to contradict for the sake of twists like being a tsundere amplified to the max. I really like Aoi Koga as a voice actress, and I'll admit, she managed to make the character at least watchable, even if only for a bit. But I'd rather have someone else be the poster love interest rather than dealing with such a bratty character on the loose. Other than that, the rest of the cast comes off as bland. Therefore, the majority of its comedy simply falls flat, other than a couple of supposed "cute" or "rizz" moments that our hero of the scene managed to spout improvisingly.

Treat *Mistress Kanan is Devilishly Easy* like a gauntlet, like how a demon would subject you to torture. There are moments of payoff to be found, but it is very little and unsatisfactory to even be called one. I do not recommend watching it unless you're looking for a little serotonin dose, which this anime promises.
