Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Ultra Romantic

The elite members of Shuchiin Academy's student council continue their competitive day-to-day antics. Council president Miyuki Shirogane clashes daily against vice-president Kaguya Shinomiya, each fighting tooth and nail to trick the other into confessing their romantic love. Kaguya struggles within the strict confines of her wealthy, uptight family, rebelling against her cold default demeanor as she warms to Shirogane and the rest of her friends.

Meanwhile, council treasurer Yuu Ishigami suffers under the weight of his hopeless crush on Tsubame Koyasu, a popular upperclassman who helps to instill a new confidence in him. Miko Iino, the newest student council member, grows closer to the rule-breaking Ishigami while striving to overcome her own authoritarian moral code.

As love further blooms at Shuchiin Academy, the student council officers drag their outsider friends into increasingly comedic conflicts.

The ultimate romantic declaration.

The third season of Kaguya-sama: Love Is War not only continues the story but elevates everything to the maximum: emotion, comedy, and, above all, the romance that has been building since the beginning.

The premise remains the same: the psychological "war" between Kaguya Shinomiya and Miyuki Shirogane to make the other confess first. But here, this dynamic ceases to be just a game of pride and begins to show its real emotional consequences. What was once almost a strategic game transforms into something much deeper.

And that's precisely what makes this season so special. You feel the weight of what is being built. It's ... not just "who will confess first," but why it's so difficult for them. Pride, fear of rejection, insecurities—everything comes to the surface in a very well-developed way.

Watching Ultra Romantic is almost a physical experience: it gives you that butterflies-in-your-stomach feeling, that good anxiety, as if you were living it alongside the characters. The development is extremely rewarding because the series respects the pacing of the story. Nothing happens haphazardly; each important moment feels deserved.

And when the climax finally arrives… it's exactly what the title promises: something grand. Without giving away spoilers, it's the kind of conclusion that rewards those who have followed the entire journey. Pride and ego, which have always been barriers, finally give way to something more sincere.

But it's not just romance. The season continues to perfectly balance comedy and drama. The absurd situations, the mental excesses, and the completely chaotic moments are still present, often stolen by characters like Chika Fujiwara, who keeps the series' humor alive.

At the same time, the more serious moments gain even more strength. Characters are deepened, internal conflicts are explored, and the work shows that it can go beyond traditional romantic comedy.

The soundtrack also deserves special mention. It knows exactly when to kick in, whether to intensify the drama or further elevate the romantic moments. There are scenes that would be good even without the music… but with it, they become memorable.

Visually, the animation remains very consistent, with creative direction and full of personality. The visual exaggerations and metaphors continue to be used intelligently to represent the characters' internal conflicts.

In the end, this season is practically the peak of the work. It's the kind of anime you want to watch with company because several scenes simply leave you smiling like a fool.

If you've followed along this far, this season not only delivers, it surpasses expectations.

A terceira temporada de Kaguya-sama: Love Is War não só continua a história como eleva tudo ao máximo: emoção, comédia e, principalmente, o romance que vinha sendo construído desde o início.

A premissa continua a mesma: a “guerra” psicológica entre Kaguya Shinomiya e Miyuki Shirogane para fazer o outro confessar primeiro. Mas aqui, essa dinâmica deixa de ser só um jogo de orgulho e começa a mostrar suas consequências emocionais de verdade. O que antes era quase uma brincadeira estratégica vai se transformando em algo muito mais profundo.

E é justamente isso que torna essa temporada tão especial. Você sente o peso do que está sendo construído. Não é só “quem vai se declarar primeiro”, mas por que isso é tão difícil para eles. O orgulho, o medo de rejeição, as inseguranças, tudo vem à tona de forma muito bem trabalhada.

Assistir Ultra Romantic é quase uma experiência física: dá aquele frio na barriga, aquela ansiedade boa, como se você estivesse vivendo junto com os personagens. O desenvolvimento é extremamente gratificante porque a série respeita o tempo da construção. Nada acontece de forma jogada, cada momento importante parece merecido.

E quando finalmente chega o clímax… é exatamente o que o título promete: algo grandioso. Sem entrar em spoilers, é o tipo de conclusão que recompensa quem acompanhou toda a jornada. O orgulho e o ego, que sempre foram barreiras, finalmente cedem espaço para algo mais sincero.

Mas não é só romance. A temporada continua equilibrando perfeitamente comédia e drama. As situações absurdas, os exageros mentais e os momentos completamente caóticos continuam presentes, muitas vezes roubados por personagens como Chika Fujiwara, que mantém o humor da série sempre vivo.

Ao mesmo tempo, os momentos mais sérios ganham ainda mais força. Personagens são aprofundados, conflitos internos são explorados, e a obra mostra que consegue ir além da comédia romântica tradicional.

A trilha sonora também merece destaque. Ela sabe exatamente quando entrar, seja para intensificar o drama ou elevar ainda mais os momentos românticos. Há cenas que, sem a música, já seriam boas… mas com ela se tornam memoráveis.

Visualmente, a animação continua muito consistente, com direção criativa e cheia de personalidade. Os exageros visuais e metáforas continuam sendo usados de forma inteligente para representar os conflitos internos dos personagens.

No fim, essa temporada é praticamente o auge da obra. É aquele tipo de anime que dá vontade de assistir acompanhado porque várias cenas simplesmente te deixam sorrindo igual bobo.

Se você acompanhou até aqui, essa temporada não só entrega, ela supera expectativas.

Mixed Feelings

Frankly, I expected more. The second season surpassed its prequel, so I expected an upward tendency in terms of writing. The focus of this season is what I think made it less appealing to me. In terms of animation and sound design the show remains very good.

I did not enjoy spending more time with Maki Shijo, who in the previous season was a recurring visual gag (a girl being left out of things). Learning about her beef with her best friend or that she is a cousin of Kaguya was deeply uninteresting. Her comedic shtick this time was that she is a mini-Kaguya, switching between ... despotic and sweet. However, it felt extremely tiring and out of character, as in the previous seasons she was set up to be timid and unable to put her foot down. The other joke is that she calls Kaguya “auntie” to make her look old, but that’s it. The conclusion to Maki’s arc is also inconsistent with the story, as she is approached by Nagisa, the “girlfriend character”, who tells her that Maki is the most important person to her. That sounds like a flat-out lie as it is not substantiated by anything we have seen in the last three seasons.

The main plot was fine I guess, though it was dragged out by filler. Yu and Iino keep developing in terms of character, which is nice.

1. Repetitive Narrative Structure

The series relies heavily on a stereotypical episodic loop:

Initiation: a simple social interaction

Escalation: internal overanalysis

Resolution: a character "wins" psychologically

... This structure is reused in many episodes with little variation. From a storytelling perspective, this represents a glaring lack of narrative diversity compared to series with evolving story arcs.

2. Limited Narrative Progression (Early Seasons)

For much of the anime:

The main relationship doesn't develop significantly.
Major emotional developments are delayed.

This can objectively be described as narrative slowness, especially compared to other romantic comedies where important relationship milestones occur earlier.

3. Explanatory Overkill

The narrator plays a dominant role:

They frequently explain the characters' thoughts and the consequences of their actions.

This reduces the need for visual storytelling.

From a technical standpoint, there is an excessive reliance on explanation at the expense of description, a narrative technique I find less effective in visual media.

4. Predominance of Interior Monologue

Scenes often favor:

Long sequences of internal thoughts

Strategic analyses of trivial situations

This results in a low action density per episode.

5. Imbalance in the Use of Secondary Characters

As the number of characters increases:

Some characters (like Ishigami) are developed.

Others remain relatively static or underutilized.

This creates an uneven distribution of character development, which constitutes a structural problem in ensemble storytelling.

6. Genre Constraints

The anime adheres strictly to its basic premise:

Romantic courtship remains the central mechanism.

Even emotional story arcs are approached from this perspective.

This results in a limited tonal and thematic range, compared to series that evolve beyond their initial concept.

Therefore, don't waste 16 hours of your life watching this drivel worthy of the Italian Brainrot. I've already wasted 30 minutes making you do this, so save yourself 16 hours and don't watch this crap.
