Good episode. Definitely flew by in my opinion, felt like 5 minutes watching this. Agott did talk a big game and choke under pressure when she and Coco were left alone, and Custas put himself in a dangerous and dumb situation after being saved. But Coco did have the courage to help Custas and find a way, and hopefully, Agott learned to slow down a little bit and learn from her mistakes with focusing too much on overcoming her flaws and not rushing as much to get direct experience. Coco did manage to use the spell to break down the boulder into sand to make it easy for Custas to escape the boulder that trapped and ruined his legs, but she turned the whole riverbed and land area into sand without realizing it. I don't know what made her accidentally take down the whole thing but the Knights Moralis finally showed up in a great cliffhanger and look to remove her memories as a 'punishment' for the spell she used. The river can be important for multiple uses, and it was compromised so I get why the Knights didn't care for Agott's pleas. Agott and Coco did show some good teamwork, and Coco's thinking and willingness to react to tough situations and succeed must have earned even the tiniest bit of support and trust with Agott, as she did try to defend Coco and not throw her under the bus. Her own spell used for distracting the other people looking on looked dope, even if those people got bored of it not soon after and was still worried for Custas through all of that.

Visually, this episode was solid and was put together in a consistent fashion for the most part, and the pacing was good. The Raincleaver that Qifrey used to save those two people trapped in the carriage that was stuck in the river was awesome. Not just in animation, but even the concept of a sword that can split water bodies in half the way it did looked cool. Wouldn't say this was the best episode of the series, but it was solid stuff which was improved by a strong cliffhanger. Also, a shoutout to robes actually being practical for once in a magic anime, as they were shown here to partially be used for hiding spells from being drawn in public due to the rules of the magic system there. That's a nice little detail.

Another piece of art!!! This universe is sooooo interesting I just want to be swallowed by it lol It was nice to know more about Agot background, it really gives a light about her behaviour. Qfrey's sword is one of the best magic itens I ever met in life!!!!! This ending also turn my stomach upside down, this magic item for erasing memory is so creepy, it reminds me of that gate from FMA with a touch of nerve cells lol CANT WAIT FOR NEXT WEEK god send help

Jesus put a leash on Custas, and after the two responsible adults conveniently leave all hell breaks loose, and right on cue are the bad guys set up last episode. This episode was a little too contrived for me. Everything in the story had been happening pretty smoothly until now. Also amazing how quickly the Moralis guys could get there from what I assume was a place pretty far away compared to Qifrey and Oiruggio who only went a short distance up and down stream. Geez what are they doing taking a dump or something?

Coco just can't catch a break. I have a feeling that Brimmed Cap they're looking for did something to her when they encountered the dragon.

It's also interesting that we got to see into the mind of Agott. That trauma she has is probably why she's the way she is. She almost broke down.

Qifrey and Olruggio were being pretty good mentors trying to prevent Agott from taking on more than she could handle, especially during this crisis.

Yet dealing with kids is never so easy. Watching Custas get himself into life threatening danger right after being rescued was daunting to see.

The flashback Agott had was very insightful into why she's so desperate to prove herself.

Lastly that cliffhanger has me stunned. Coco just copied the spell the other girls used, so how has its destructiveness increased so much??? Someone definitely had to have set her up with the Knights Moralis coming so fast to erase her memories.

least obvious typecasting

Easthies - Junichi Suwabe | Qiffrey - Natsuki Hanae

freaking livid i hear junichi suwabe in yomi no tsugai and now witch hat atelier.

alrighty then we got aggott impostor syndrome and coco being framed. aggott definitely feeling the weight of that pressure and olruggio's advice is true but difficult to communicate through a child lol. custas a liability fr. and it seems coco just used the wind circle she came up with to propel herself upwards, weird how it didn't generate that much speed compared to the previous ep but maybe because of its size and the weight of 2 people? love the details

another detail is just aggott's distancing herself from coco while she giddily enjoy what she thought of using with the magic she had learned. that weird step back from aggott was funny.

easthies killing the vibe man, why you gotta bring a cliffhanger to this huh, now i gotta wait a week.

Oh my goodness, what a heel in the end there as they finally appeared!

For the first time in a while, Agott and Coco are left behind to appease the humans. Though not as strong and probably the more weaker episode since the third one, I appreciate the fact that some of the spells that both of our girls have been working on are finally being used in this episode. For example, Agott's light show and Coco applying the sand spell from their time in the labyrinth.

But nah, my mouth gaped wide open when I saw the whole area turning into sand, that was unexpected. With all that being said, the magic police are here! Oh Coco count your miracles for this one.

Always love it when a story focused on magic spells and eye candy can still make room for a badass sword.

Can't exactly tell if Qifrey and Olrug left Coco and Agott alone on purpose but it was cool watching them work together, even if indirectly. The whiplash from pulling off a rescue operation to being sentenced for witch war crimes is wild though.

Well this episode went from good to interesting to wtf is going on, firstly the water sword Qifrey had was super cool and all you can really feel the experience gap he and Olruggio have compared to the girls. Agott seriously does need to learn that there's a time and place for everything and at that moment the priority of the people mattered not proving herself.

At least Coco could snap her out of it, honestly though im really surprised Coco even remembered how to cast that wallbreaking spell on the boulder she might be better at this than I first thought.

As for what happened at the end I genuinely don't have a clue, I seriously doubt it was the brimmed cap's doing trying to frame Coco or something that wouldn't make much sense I doubt he's do something that extreme to someone he has a interest in.

If I had to guess perhaps that gift he mentioned a few episode's ago had something to do with it I seriously can't think of anything else, like maybe he altered her memory or something and placed a bunch of forbidden spells in her mind I really don't know.

I doubt one of the knights moralis tried framing her since I assume they stick to their code really well but hell idk, I don't even know if they could have set that up so quickly. Curious to see what Qifrey makes of the situation though next episode. Never have I been more tempted to read the manga then I have with this anime.

Might of been partially because of that, but also was because they didn't have levitating shoes and the other girls did.

KNIGHTS MORALIS LOOKS AMAZING AS HELL, BUT NOT THE CLIFFHANGERS MAN. Great episode, better than the last one.

Finally, some insight into Agott’s background. Agott Arklaum, judging by Agott’s trauma—it seems she comes from a noble family, Arklaum is a name to remember.

Agott, I’ve said this a few times, but you need a reality check. The world doesn’t revolve around you. Bro thinks this is her chance to show off, but others are going through a disaster. That expression is INSANELY SCARY.

Forgive me, but seeing a dumb kid do something stupid makes me laugh. Especially the way they executed that dialogue and scene. CUSTAS! CUSTAS! CUSTASSSSSS! Well, at least CUSSTASSSSS was saved—say thanks to MY GOAT COCO, PEAK character. I want to know more about the relationship between Dagda and Custas.

JUNICHI SUWABE IS HEREEE, LETSSGOOOOO. YUI ISHIKAWA TOO? OH MY GOD. PEAK CASTING. The best cliffhanger so far. Did Coco’s magic turn into forbidden magic because Brimmed Cap did something to Coco’s hat?

I'm assuming that they enhanced her magic quite a bit, because the Witch lady did say "I want to keave you with a gift"

but also my personal theory is when she passed out after the dragon fight maybe the witch used forbidden magic to like temper with Coco's memories and planted in forbidden magic for example the one she cast this episode. it seems reasonable and also like a textbook reason for why some magic is forbidden

Was wondering what happened to the thread, guess they nuked the last one? Agott focused episode so you already knew it was going to be my fave yet and it didn’t disappoint. It might not have had the action and animation of the dragon fight, but I think this episode’s theme and message was the core of what WHA is about. Magic exists to help people.

There’s been a lot of hate for Agott, but I love her character so much and find her to be such a realistic depiction of a child. She reminds me of myself in many ways, desperate to prove myself to the world and make my mark. The thing is, as Agott realizes, being a witch isn’t about being praised and lauded, it’s about being reliable and trustworthy. For example, the way the villagers look up to Qifrey and instantly come running to him to get his help with the bridge because they know they can count on him to get things done. That is the reward, not just casting crazy advanced spells, casting ones that matter. Her view of the world is very narrow and frankly ass backwards in many regards, like many kids. She will grow and look back and laugh at these days like we all did.

Again, speaking of accurate depictions of kids, look at the sheer joy and whimsy on Coco’s face when she sees Qifrey’s seal sword collecting the water. She, Tetia and the other girls feel like actual kids and it’s adorable. 🥹 the way Coco got all excited when the villager called her “little Ms. Witch” I can’t 🥹

Ever since Coco showed up, and especially since the events of the dragon labyrinth, Agott has been desperate to show out and prove herself, as kids normally do when competition for attention shows up, and ofc when she gets that opportunity she freezes lol. Another reminder that she is a child and her brain isn’t fully developed. “I am Qifrey’s top apprentice, the witch Agott Arklaum. Behold my incredible gifts. I am so proud of my girl for overcoming her fear, analyzing the situation and doing what she could do to help. THAT’S the mark of a great witch. Even though it wasn’t her spell directly that saved Custas, she helped Coco remember a spell that did and that’s just as important. It doesn’t matter who gets the “win” in the end. As long as lives are saved, that’s the reward.

THAT ENDING HELLO?? I didn’t expect the Knights Moralis to show up so soon after they teased them last week, damn that’s quick. If Coco just used the same spell Riceh taught her, how tf did it spiral out of control like that? Something reeks of foul play. I need the next episode because I swear if they hurt my daughter..

So Agott was a bit of a squib - no wonder it warped her personality. And as for Coco, well, Your Honor, all I did was break up a rock, I didn't mean to cause an eco-catastrophe. Surely Quiffrey will appear and defuse the situation? Although I assume the Knights Moralis can just do as they please, they are the law, sort of thing.

Was waiting for this episode. Didn't disappoint. I mean, so far no episode disappointed.

I can see why someone might not like the show though. Many modern anime progress faster, by episode 7 they might already be in the middle of an arc. Here we are half-way through the season and this is still setup, with the appearance of the Knights Moralis.
The pacing feels kinda slow.

I didn't notice it in the manga, probably because I binged the first 4 volumes at once. But in the anime... it shows.

WATER MAGIC SWORD!??? That was cool! I can't really make sense of the seals.. how does it even activate? it does when it's pulled out of the scabbard but what acts as the ring? It looks like a really advanced thing compared to the usual overlapping circles. (or maybe it is always active and the scabbard disables it)

Now I understand why Agott seems to be always in a rush– she seeks approval and recognition, of course there is the classic high class family that values skills and talent over anything else and deem those lacking unworthy.

And also that's why Agott's practicing to write with eyes close huh, so that she can do it while hiding her hands behind the robe, that was a cool detail... and was the light bird the original spell she'd been trying too?

I just knew something is gonna go wrong the moment Qifrey and the others left, we can't stop messing things up every damn episode. Did Coco messed up by adding a repetition sign in the wall breaking seal?? or was it the doing of 'Eyeball' ?

Damn that cliffhanger.

This kid, Custas, nearly died and then immediately went right back to doing reckless stuff again. Most people would probably still be shaken after an experience like that and would completely avoid any kind of adventure for a while, but apparently not this kid, I guess. Damn, the surroundings turning to dust was unexpected too...

Sigh... as if Coco’s past involvement wasn’t already enough to get her memories erased, now this new incident happens right in front of the Knights Moralis.

Oh yeah, what a blast I had from episode 7 — again, magnificent animation, stunning art, the plot, and the music — finally I felt the music from the Dark Souls composer (at the end of the episode).

And I hope this episode puts a definitive end to that stupid take about the drafting compass and why mages don't use it. Because you need to cast spells quickly and in front of ordinary people — you need muscle memory, not your stupid compasses.

And finally, the “cute girls doing cute things” take will go away — here, a guy got his legs crushed by a rock. Pretty cute, huh? The guy is now a cripple for life.

In short, episode 100 out of 10 — magnificent, wonderful.

Thank you to the creators for such a manga adaptation. This anime is only for those who truly love good anime.

P.S Kustas, that blasted Kustas — manga readers know what I mean

@ShutDownHeart That was in fact 2 full chapters (Chapters 10-11) and has covered the most pages in an episode so far with 63.

I also really don't get this take. We got a glimpse at Agott's past, met several important characters, Coco and Agott grew closer, and finally the river was completely turned to sand which adds a new mystery: how did that happen?

Not to mention the fact that Coco grabbed the Knights' attention as well because of that, which Qifrey, two episodes in a row, had stated he didn't want to get involved with them.

The pressure that the witches were under must've been tough considering the father was agonising over the safety of his son. Qifrey and Olruggio handled the situation with excellent precision, especially for Qifrey as he hates water, but he didn't hesitate to unleash a water sword and part the river in order for Olruggio to save the kid. It was another visually impressive moment.

Sadly, when the two of them went off to investigate the river further with Tetia and Richeh, leaving Coco and Ogatt behind, the kid that was saved earlier decided to try and rescue the cargo from the wrecked carriage, but then caused the tree he tied his rope on to collapse and cause a small landslide. It was reckless of him to do that, but this was a serious test for Coco and Agott to rescue him, again, while making sure that the citizens, including the distraught father, didn't see them cast the magic. Far easier said than done, but Agott's phoenix distraction worked like a charm in order for coco to do what she needed to do and rescued herself and the kid.

Unfortunately, Coco's spell worked too well and turned part of the river into sand and that caught the attention of the intimidating Knights Moralis. This was such a brutal way to end the episode on a cliffhanger as the leader was prepared to wipe Coco's memories. I really, REALLY, hope that Qifrey and Olruggio get back in time to save Coco from this siutation.

Man these knights are way too hasty. No investigation really just straight to ok lets erase your memories now. Like yep definitely all this little girls fault. It easily could've been just an actual brim hat framing them or something. Idk maybe the "gift" caused Coco's magic to go haywire etc.

Still crazy how that entire riverbank is just fucked? all turning to sand goddamn. Maybe the knights should try to stop that first before spending all their attention on two little girls that just saved a kid? Also goddamn Coustas just keeps putting himself in dangerous situations. Lets hope he doesn't get himself in anymore trouble from now on.

Look I get you gotta do your job you gotta follow the rules whatever but you gotta do your job right and properly not straight to mind erasing the little girl instead of idk looking and checking for actually brim hats.

Anyways we get a bit of Agott and Coco teamwork cool. We see a bit of her past as well and why she's so impatient. Seems her mother or whatever really good? but then Agott is lacking in comparison?

Also so you gotta be able to draw with just muscle memory huh under the cloak where nobody can see you draw? Cool.

That rain/water cleaving sword was sick af as well. Qifrey really must hate water cuz he fucking mastered every way control water to not get wet, specializing in water magic, and if that's not enough, he has a fucking sword to stab water.

So, is this going to be the start of Agott's redemption arc? We had a hint of backstory for her showing that she is insecure of her skills as a witch compared to her more talented mother. I think the next couple of episodes will show how her relationship with her mother will contrast to Coco's relationship with her own mother. Then she probably will learn to accept Coco in the end. This series keeps giving us a trail of story crumbs to look forward to on succeeding story segments.

The fun police is here, always jumping straight to conclusions, because they have to, or else leaking magic secrets fucks their secret world and them up royally!

Agott and her demons from the closet moment, the "no talent" child pushing herself to the limit and not seeing the bigger picture, until Coco pull her back to really, here comes some gravity!

The reason why she made a desert in the middle of the river is hidden from us, but hinted a little bit from the previous episodes; just think what she used the draw that spell, the potent mix of that shit is important!

10/10, next episode is going to be half the confrontation with magic police and half a chiller one, until the next mini arc!

Mixed feelings.

Very cool to see the restrictions put on casting spells in public. A glimpse into Agott's backstory was also interesting.

But there were quite a few irritating or weird moments in the episode. The kid going back down to the river immediately after almost-drowning was ridiculous (as many have already pointed out).

And the rescue was kind of disappointing... they just flew down, pulled two people out and flew away. Why did Qifrey even need to pull out that sick sword?

The ending was kind of stupid, to be honest. These people arrive at the scene of a possible magical catastrophe, and their top priority is to capture two kids and carry out punishment on the spot. It's not even about following due process. If they're really after Brimmed Caps, shouldn't they look around some more? The leader literally says he doesn't believe these apprentices could've pulled this off. And what if there are some Brimmed Caps hiding nearby and waiting to ambush them or something?

The Raincleaver sword was really great. Qifrey and Olruggio were able to save everyone. I was very happy how Coco and the others acted like actual kids after watching the sword. They were so adorable.

It seems Agott comes from a great family of witches. Her family abandoned her and that's why am she has become like this.

It's very tough to handle children. Custas fell into danger after being saved. Coco and Agott did a good teamwork. Coco seemed to finally recognise Coco. She defended against the Knights Moralis.

The Knights Moralis are here! There is something suspicious. I don't think Coco's spell is responsible for what happened. Iguin must have done something.

Dope episode! I do wish we could have seen the spell Coco casted because that would done alot to foreshadowing. I think the show is still trying to find its footing on how to depict the magic system or more likely the author had yet all of their thought into how rules based magic system is fully fleshed out by this chapter.

Also, winged caps look so dope (it sucks the good guys have no drip lol). Finally, really loved the world building and why they wear cloaks instead of being a thing mages just always do there is a dope reasoning.
