When you guys think of manga or light novel adaptations, are they always in anime form?

Aren't there books that you have read that made you consider that they have the potential to make great live action series or movies? Have there been Japanese dramas or non-animated movies that are adaptations of manga or light novels that you have enjoyed?

In general, I'd say so. Particularly when it comes to manga, it feels like anime is the natural path of progression for its adaptation. For me, live action is not my thing so no in regard to enjoying non-animated adaptations.

What have I done?!
It's too late for me now.
I guess I won't be the sane
level 5 of Academy City anymore.

Oh yeah, I have noticed manga adaptions kind of being lackluster or leaving the adaption incomplete.

Honestly yes, I've always felt that way for the adaption for W.I.T.C.H, despite it not originally being a Japanese property. 🤔

There are! I watched a lots of japanese dramas I didn't even know they were based on mangas.

For example:

- Bambino
- Gokusen
- Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge
- Kimi wa Pet (2003-2003)
- Liar Game
- Kurosagi
- LIFE
- Bloody Monday

I really enjoy most of them and I don't care if the original is a manga or an LN. Mostly I never read the original and even if I did, most japanese adaptations are really great. Of course there are adaptations that doesn't come out so well.

Anyway, I'm a j-drama fan since 2003.

I actually watched the live action drama of Even Though We're Adults recently and it was really good (Drama link here btw). Mizuki Yamamoto was well-cast as Ayano in particular.

I also watched Ayaka Is In Love With Hiroko but hmm...yeah, that was less good. 😂

@GentleRain81 Was it a surprise to find out that those TV series were adapted from manga? Since you watch so much j-drama, nowadays do you feel like you can tell when a series comes from a comic book? From the few that you viewed both the adaptation and the source, usually which one do you prefer?

@Briekimchi Do you watch these TV series because of the source material or is it irrelevant?

@rti9 I read the source material first and that made me interested in the live action, since neither have an anime adaptation yet. When it comes to live action drama, I'd typically watch Korean before Japanese but I'm probably a bit more open-minded now.

@rti9 It was really a surprise, since most manga that were adapted to tv dramas aren's so popular. And no, I can't tell if a tv drama is an adaptation or not.
If I don't know the original light novel or manga, I always prefer the adaptation. But it depends. Even an original tv drama can be awesome and horrible also.
