Himekishi wa Barbaroi no Yome

Honestly, this series feels surprisingly original compared to a lot of fantasy romance stories nowadays. The storyline is genuinely amazing, and most things are explained really well instead of just being thrown in randomly, which made the world feel much more immersive and enjoyable. Also the fact its just original, unlike some anime nowadays which is just no sense garbage.

What I loved most were the small wholesome moments between the characters. Those little interactions made the story feel warm and lovable instead of just constant drama or action. The character designs are also beautiful and memorable, and the chemistry between everyone makes the series even ... more enjoyable.

It's a medieval fantasy anime. Although it deals with distinct themes and tries to be different in several ways.
The main audience of the work is completely female, focusing mainly on older women always dating younger men. So if this is your niche audience, great, read and watch it at will, otherwise avoid it because it's not meant to please everyone. After all, it's something very specific.
Another thing to mention about this dynamic is that it deviates from the reality of what happened in the past in medieval times in terms of age, so don't expect real-world references. The story is more associated with the contemporary ... culture of the modern world, and this in itself distances it from things of the past in wanting to describe something different and unusual, different from the norm in medieval stories. In short, treat it as a medieval isekai world distinct from reality, as a utopian story with a distorted vision, yes, but in a different way of writing. This is something you actively seek to read and continue watching. The story itself could have fights and world-building, but the focus is more on romance development, and by itself it's something slower, so don't have expectations regarding battle relationships, as it's more focused on portraying couples in an inverted way of couple dynamics, but in a medieval context.
I hope this clarifies people's expectations. I'm not going to judge the whole work because I dropped it after the end of the third episode; it was too bad to watch, so I'm not going to give any more feedback beyond that, and it would be unfair to watch something that wasn't good just to come and give feedback on its own. But since it was so bad, I was forced to come here to clarify so that people who want to watch it don't have false expectations; it's just a romance series.

Can't quite put my finger on it, but this show is kind of one-note, predictable, and unrewarding. Could have been interesting, but instead it's trying so hard to be different that it's actually still the same. In fact, it's taken four episodes to tell us that, and nothing really interesting has developed yet. Just, "hey look at us we're supposed to be BAD but we're actually GOOD!" oh wow. what a revelation. someone get the heart medication, i'm so surprised and shocked.

Other than some questionable themes that I'll leave to the dummies on twitter to fight over (which they invariably will), I can only get ... one single beat from this show and that's basically the trope of "the bad guys were actually cool peeps, way more cool than you this whole time" which in real life is just pants on head wishful thinking, with a mix of yeah people are in some ways just like us but there's reasons we're enemies. It desperately needs a balance from the other point of view, and if we're supposed to get that from the "warrior princess" than i'd like to know where and when because it's not there. Only a hint of "we thought this way but i guess not". k.

Animation's pretty decent (albeit stiff as heck), characters are flat, world building is kind of just shoe-horned in there as an afterthought. Like, "oh crap did I remember to change the laundry? or, oh no I forgot to smash some fairy tale critters in there and of course they have to be immediately likeable because in case you haven't noticed they're the good guys". It's trying so hard to subvert expectations it's like an edgelord teen that desperately wants to prove to his friends that yes indeed he is a pensive, rebellious tough guy. okay Tim, we'll wait for your phase to be over so we can play yu-gi-oh again. Some people care about sound as well, and I'd usually write about that a little, but it's really not noticeable at all, at least for me. So I guess not terrible or intrusive but not pants-shartingly good either.

I'm not saying it's bad, it just feels forced and shallow. I guess that's what I'm going for here. If you want a deep story with high stakes, this is not it. At least, I don't have any reason to believe it's going to do a 180 any time soon. Some of you will like it but in my view it's more of the same with a different flavor, and slightly belittling of the watcher's intelligence.
