If you’ve ever felt painfully average but still secretly wish you could be someone, you need to read Eren the Southpaw.
It’s about a normal guy working at an ad agency, constantly struggling with the fact that his friends have insane talent — and he doesn’t. He’s not a genius, he’s not “chosen,” and there’s no miracle or cheat power coming his way like in most anime or manga. He fails, he gets insecure, he feels stuck.
But what makes this story hit different is how raw and honest the portrayal of the main character is. He doesn’t run away from his own flaws or weakness —
...
no matter how painful it is, he faces them head-on. And even though life constantly reminds him he’s not special, he refuses to just accept unhappiness as his reality. Instead, he keeps searching, stubbornly, for his own answer — his own way to matter, however small that might seem.
Watching him made me realize, “This is how ordinary people slowly become strong — by facing themselves, over and over, without giving up.”
The setting’s an ad agency, so the culture might feel different if you’re from somewhere else. But honestly, that’s what makes it interesting — you get to see a side of Japan that’s rarely shown in anime.
I don’t think there’s an English version or anime adaptation yet, which sucks, because this story deserves to be known worldwide. I seriously hope one day people everywhere get to read Eren the Southpaw and feel the same frustration, courage, and quiet strength that I did.
Much respect to Kappy for creating this incredible story.
