Synopsis

"Immortal Tatsu," the legendary yakuza who single-handedly defeated a rival gang with a lead pipe, is a name known to strike fear in both hardened police officers and vicious criminals. Soon after his sudden disappearance, he resurfaces with a slight change in profession. Now equipped with an apron, Tatsu has given up violence and is trying to make an honest living as a house husband.

While adapting to mundane household tasks, Tatsu finds that being a house husband has its own challenges, from the battlefield known as supermarket sales to failures in the kitchen. Despite living peacefully, misunderstandings seem to follow him left and right. Gokushufudou follows the daily life of the comically serious ex-yakuza as he leaves behind his dangerous previous life to become a stay-at-home husband.

Gokushufudou ranked eighth in the 2019 Kono Manga ga Sugoi! for the Male Readers division.

The series has been published in English as The Way of the Househusband by VIZ Media under the VIZ Signature imprint since September 17, 2019. It has also been released in Polish by Studio JG since October 7, 2019; and in Italian by J-POP since July 1, 2020.

I writin' this review while I jsut only read 25 chapters but keep in mind I just wanted to promote the good stuff bro'.

So do you wanna' read a good comic about a badass main hero who also unique and funny?
Then this is your manga! meet Immortal Tatsu the ex-yakuza who will make you laugh.

Long story short this is a really fuuny story about an ex-yakuza whose livin' his everyday live now as a full time husband in his unique way.

As far as I see every chapter is a little story ( you know 1 chapter=1 episode kinda way )

You will enjoy it. Guaranteed.

This series started off great. The premise is very funny, and was able to sustain itself for a few chapters, but it became very bland very quickly. I suppose there's only so much you can do with the premise of "manly man takes on a traditionally feminine role" before it goes stale. I think this would've worked better as a single volume, or as part of a larger series of vingettes.

That said, the art is very solid throughout, at least what I've read. It's not spectacular or particularly unique, but it is very competently done. The character designs are interesting, and I want to eat ...

This story is really funny at first because it's a comedy, but things don't hold up later on since the point gets really repetitive. The punchline is always centered around an ex-yakuza trying to do typical household stuff, which can get boring quickly. That means it's hard to laugh or smile or even want to re-read the story since it's not worth it anymore. It's more like a "joke of the week" format of consuming the story, and isn't really worth getting the tanobons. Just read it digitally, so you don't have to commit to buying it.
