Gintama: The Final

Two years have passed following the Tendoshuu's invasion of the O-Edo Central Terminal. Since then, the Yorozuya have gone their separate ways. Foreseeing Utsuro's return, Gintoki Sakata begins surveying Earth's ley lines for traces of the other man's Altana. After an encounter with the remnants of the Tendoshuu—who continue to press on in search of immortality—Gintoki returns to Edo.

Later, the regrouped Shinsengumi and Yorozuya begin an attack on the occupied Central Terminal. With the Altana harvested by the wreckage of the Tendoshuu's ship in danger of detonating, the Yorozuya and their allies fight their enemies while the safety of Edo—and the rest of the world—hangs in the balance. Fulfilling the wishes of their teacher, Shouyou Yoshida's former students unite and relive their pasts one final time in an attempt to save their futures.

9th August 2025, I finally finished Gintama. It was a good five years run for me as i started it during the covid. I was practically devouring it but when I completed the first 100 eps I got scared of the ending and how I won't be able to see it for the first time ever again. After that thought I started to watch frugally and took big breaks between eps and seasons heck i rewatched the first 200 eps again before watching Gintama in HD. Now after all this time I finally took courage to end it (main reason being the release of the ... new series Ginpachi-sensei two months from now) . Its crazy to think I started it back during my high school days now I am in University. Gintama carried me through a very important period of my life. There were many depressing days and lonely days but when I watched Gintama every of those feelings washed away and I was laughing like never before. It taught me important lessons that made me who I am today. I will cherish these lessons as long as I live. Well enough about that, the ending was one of the best ending for a shonen anime till this date. It had such a satisfying ending that I was ready at that moment to rewatch from the first episode. I was scared of nothing. Anyway thank you Hideaki Sorachi Sensei (Gorilla) to have such an awe-inspiring masterpiece that I will wholeheartedly cherish, I really loved everything about it. I also want to thank Tomokazu Sugita who nailed Gintoki's voice that no one else could have done, he really enhanced the experience. I also like to thank Studio Sunrise, BNP and the animators to make the anime as flawless as possible given the low budget. Thanks to everyone who worked hard to create this masterpiece of an anime.


PS: Just got the news on the new Yoshiwara in Flames Arc Movie, I was already excited enough for Ginpachi Sensei now this. I can't thank BNP enough and whoever came up with the idea to remake this arc. I don't care that it is just a money-grabbing move. I am just happy I am getting more Gintama.

Mixed Feelings

Gintama The Final

This review comes from the fingers of a Gintama fanboy. The content is 100% serious, biologically grown, and may be passed on to your neighbors at dinner.

Gintama is a show that really can't win everyone over. It is known for its blunt, dirty, and bizarre humor and its perfectly twisted characters. If you have no prejudices against such a show and want to give this humor a chance, you will get your money's worth here. I can hardly put into words how often we had a laughter attack while watching this show, this memory will stay with me forever.

My biggest concern has ... always been Gintama's well-known "Serious Arcs", I found them to be a pleasant diversion, but nothing worth mentioning. Their pacing was slow, the story behind them only small, there was a lot of talk no jutsus and immense amounts of melodrama depending on which arc it was. And unfortunately, it remained a similar pattern until the end.

What can you get out of this movie?
Let me put it this way, if you didn't like the Silver Soul arc, this movie won't convince you either. It's simply a continuation of that. More dull fights, a final fight, and then some amusing jokes sprinkled underneath and an excellent recap parody at the beginning. Even though I found the concept of Utsuro and Takasugi's story interesting, the execution wasn't good enough to convince me. Gintama tried to be both absurdly silly and overly sad and melodramatic. And this was exactly the reason why you could hardly really notice the sad and emotional qualities. You knew in one scene someone was dying. And in 5 minutes, Gintoki is puking all over the floor and bathing in it.
In that sense, if you're not a tryhard fan like me, you won't find anything in this Movie.

[Animation 7/ Music 9]

The animation was excellent, but not Movie level, there were just a few moments of brilliance scattered throughout the film. In general, it's not the best-animated film of Gintama, but visually appealing enough. Especially the final fight had a stylish arena and a nice background. I liked how this one was presented.

Nothing to add for music, good as expected. The osts are dynamic and gave the movie an extra boost.

[Story 4]

As expected, the entire movie was hyped to the skies without even reflecting that hype. I thought the film was good, I was convinced by it. But for that, I had to constantly overlook the flaws.

I wondered what they were going to do with Utsuro, Shoyo, and Takasugi in the finale and was curious to see how they could wrap up the story so briefly.

First, we had 10 minutes of comedy recap, then 30 minutes of average fighting and talking. Then a final fight and the rest was comedy again. In the end, nothing was made of Utsoro at all, his arc finale felt like a side quest. Shoyo's story was concluded in a rather cliché way, so I could hardly care about it, except for his last monologue. Only Takasugi's arc finale interested me a bit, but that was it.

Watching Gintama was like going to the highest-rated restaurant in town, eating there, and realizing that you liked the food, but it was just food, nothing special, no matter what anyone else said.

I have to admit that Gintama is one of the best anime I've ever seen, and it always made me laugh and want to watch the next episode. But if you don't connect with this show, you won't be able to like it the way Gintama fans do.

Gintama started as a compelling parody comedy and ended up as something it never should have tried to be.

Overrated is the word that best describes this movie.

It feels like it was a movie made by some interns in a rush to meet a deadline.

The animation direction and execution is terrible. They put a joke animation at the beginning of a movie, but when the joke ends you will realize that the joke was here to prepare you for this horrible animation. Will you even notice that the joke ended and the actual movie started? I wasn't sure for certain for like 20 more minutes and was really hoping it's just a joke, but it was not.

The sound as for characters ... is not bad i think its the only positive thing in this whole movie to be honest, but the sound of anything else makes you wanna cry (from pain, it is so bad its actually going to hurt your ears).

If you are a die hard fan you will watch it regardless. You will regret watching it and wish it was erased from your memory. This series just didn't know when or how to quit and that is why we get this 'thing'...

Is it still funny like it used to be? No. It's just a mess, a literal mess of an ending, a movie so bad it should have never been created.
