Synopsis

Tomorou Tenma possesses a uniquely strong e-Pulse—the energy created by human thoughts and emotions that powers egg-shaped AI devices named Sapotama. The world's everyday life relies on the assistance of Sapotamas, but the force of Tomorou's e-Pulse often causes glitches in them. One night, a strange creature calling itself Gekkoumon emerges from his device and insists on eating Tomorou's e-Pulse.

Gekkoumon is a Digimon, a creature feeding on e-Pulse that was born from an error in Sapotamas. Some Digimon completely drain humans of their energy, leaving them in a comatose state known as Cold Heart. When Tomorou's older brother, Asuka, becomes a victim of this phenomenon, Tomorou vows to avenge him.

Tomorou meets a group of Digimon-wielders called Glowing Dawn, who hunt down rogue Digimon for bounties. Their leader, Kyou Sawashiro, explains that there might still be hope for Asuka's recovery. Although Tomorou struggles to trust these strangers, he decides to join them, as he realizes that saving his brother may not be achievable on his own.

Digimon Beatbreak does not require viewers to have seen any previous Digimon seasons; it can be enjoyed without any prior knowledge of the franchise.

The setting of Digimon Beatbreak gives off a cyberpunk dystopia vibe where everyone blindly relies on AI whilst the rich live in utopian massive structures, leaving the rest to live in broken, run-down, and flooded areas.

If you pay attention to the backgrounds, you'll find that oftentimes you will see broken buildings, fallen bridges, flooded areas, and generally slum-like visuals. You can even see this on the official poster/thumbnail where the protagonists are sitting on the rubble of a destroyed highway, which ...

Mixed Feelings
Preliminary (3/? eps)
Spoiler
This has to be one of the most frustrating and unsatisfying moments I've seen in a series in a long time.
First off, the fact that someone else (that mysterious Cleaner Digimon) just swoops in and kills the Hyemon Scar the one
who tormented Tomoro and put his brother Asuka into Cold Heart coma robs the scene of any real catharsis.
It's not that Tomoro fought, got overpowered, and lost that bothers me. It's that he gets zero moment of growth or payoff.
No epic power up, no special ability awakening tied to his rare e-Pulse glitch, nothing to make him feel "special" and overcome the trial himself.
They had ...

Spoiler
Digimon Beatbreak is tonally inconsistent. It tries to build a serious story saving the MC’s brother while keeping a lighthearted tone filled with constant “feel your beat” catchphrases and misplaced comedy. On top of that, the overly emotional MC often ignores the consequences of his words, which ends up undermining his own goal. The anime can’t decide whether it wants to be dramatic or goofy, and it fails at both.

Most episodes feel more like disconnected fillers than real steps toward the main goal. Instead of pushing the story forward, they focus on teaching the MC values he should already understand at this point. None of ...
