Akame ga Kill!

Night Raid is the covert assassination branch of the Revolutionary Army, an uprising assembled to overthrow Prime Minister Honest, whose avarice and greed for power has led him to take advantage of the child emperor's inexperience. Without a strong and benevolent leader, the rest of the nation is left to drown in poverty, strife, and ruin. Though the Night Raid members are all experienced killers, they understand that taking lives is far from commendable and that they will likely face retribution as they mercilessly eliminate anyone who stands in the revolution's way.

This merry band of assassins' newest member is Tatsumi, a naïve boy from a remote village who had embarked on a journey to help his impoverished hometown and was won over by not only Night Raid's ideals, but also their resolve. Akame ga Kill! follows Tatsumi as he fights the Empire and comes face-to-face with powerful weapons, enemy assassins, challenges to his own morals and values, and ultimately, what it truly means to be an assassin with a cause.

Akame ga Kill! is one of the most intense, emotional, and brutal anime I have ever watched. From the beginning, it makes it very clear that this is not a typical shounen story where everyone is safe. Instead, it constantly raises the stakes and shows the harsh reality of war, corruption, and survival.

What makes Akame ga Kill! so impactful is how unpredictable it is. The story follows Tatsumi, a young fighter who joins Night Raid, an assassination group aiming to overthrow a corrupt empire. At first, it feels like a standard rebellion story, but it quickly becomes much darker as the series progresses. No character ... ever feels truly safe, and that constant tension keeps you fully invested.

The biggest strength of the anime is its willingness to take risks with its characters. Deaths are sudden, emotional, and often heartbreaking. Instead of giving characters plot armor, the series shows the real consequences of war. This makes every battle feel meaningful and dangerous, because anyone can lose everything at any moment.

The cast is also very memorable. Night Raid is filled with unique and likable characters, each with their own backstories, motivations, and fighting styles. Akame, in particular, stands out as a calm but deadly assassin with a strong sense of duty and emotional depth. Tatsumi’s growth throughout the series also feels natural as he slowly understands the reality of the world he is fighting in.

The action is another major highlight. The fights are fast-paced, brutal, and visually exciting, with creative abilities and intense choreography. Each battle feels different because of the wide variety of weapons and Imperial Arms, which adds a lot of variety to the combat.

Another strong aspect is the anime’s themes. Akame ga Kill! explores corruption, justice, sacrifice, and the cost of revolution. It does not present a simple “good vs evil” story, but instead shows that both sides believe they are fighting for what is right, even if their methods are extreme.

The emotional moments hit especially hard because of how attached you become to the characters. When things go wrong, it genuinely feels impactful rather than predictable. The anime does not hesitate to make you feel loss and sadness.

Of course, some people may feel that the story becomes inconsistent near the end compared to the manga, and certain plot developments can feel rushed. However, the emotional impact and intensity of the journey still remain strong.

Overall, I gave Akame ga Kill! a 10/10 because it is a brutal, emotional, and unforgettable anime that fully commits to its dark tone. It is not afraid to shock the viewer, and that makes it one of the most memorable action anime experiences out there.

Mixed Feelings

This show is one of the weirdest ones in the anime community. So many people praise it as amazing but it honestly is kind of a weird pervy anime in disguise as something deeper. People talk a lot about this series being dark and realistic because no one is "safe" but that really just makes a hollow story with surface level characters and an unsatisfying ending. Also the world in this story is so bland and one dimensional where the good guys are good and the bad guys are cartoonishly bad to the point of the main group of assassins would never kill anyone without ... good reason so why even call them assassins? The few positive things I would say are that the fights can be pretty cool, the weapons are interesting, and if you do like looking at hot characters this is a good series for you. I wouldn't say its not entirely unenjoyable as I like watching bad series a lot but its definitely not good in a critical sense but can be a fun turn your brain off goofy time.

This is a rather low-quality yet classic example of a shounen anime. Dozens of dialogues are included without purpose, conveying nothing and serving only to make the characters appear cool or to forcefully advance a weak plot. These dialogues often feel as illogical as if they were written by a 10-year-old. There is no character development. Even putting that aside, the anime is poor overall. Stronger and stronger enemies keep appearing, but somehow they are defeated abruptly. Everything happens so suddenly that we don’t even get a chance to see the impact on the characters. The series lacks meaningful content, and when you finish it, ... there’s nothing to say like, “Wow, this anime taught me something,” or, “This anime really entertained me with a unique feature.”
