Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu e

On the surface, Koudo Ikusei Senior High School is a utopia. The students enjoy an unparalleled amount of freedom, and it is ranked highly in Japan. However, the reality is less than ideal. Four classes, A through D, are ranked in order of merit, and only the top classes receive favorable treatment.

Kiyotaka Ayanokouji is a student of Class D, where the school dumps its worst. There he meets the unsociable Suzune Horikita, who believes she was placed in Class D by mistake and desires to climb all the way to Class A, and the seemingly amicable class idol Kikyou Kushida, whose aim is to make as many friends as possible.

While class membership is permanent, class rankings are not; students in lower ranked classes can rise in rankings if they score better than those in the top ones. Additionally, in Class D, there are no bars on what methods can be used to get ahead. In this cutthroat school, can they prevail against the odds and reach the top?

One of the most pleasant surprises I've ever had watching anime.

Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu might seem, at first glance, like just another generic school drama with competition between "genius" students. But after a few episodes, you realize there's something more calculated (and much colder) happening beneath the surface.

I started watching it on Marco's recommendation from the Intoxi Anime channel, and I confess I was initially drawn to the aesthetics and the premise. However, what truly captivated me was how the narrative builds psychological tension in a seemingly ordinary environment.

The premise is simple, but extremely effective: an elite school where only the best thrive. ... Students are divided into classes that compete against each other, and the system rewards results while punishing failures, literally discarding those who don't keep up. This concept creates a constant environment of pressure, where every decision matters and where trusting others can be both an advantage and a risk.

From this, the work develops a series of mental games, strategies, and social conflicts. Each arc presents new situations where intelligence, manipulation, and reading people are more important than strength or raw talent. The most interesting aspect is how the characters are never completely transparent; they all seem to be hiding something, keeping the viewer constantly suspicious and engaged.

The standout performance, without a doubt, is Kiyotaka Ayanokoji. Initially, he seems like just another introspective and distant protagonist, but as the story progresses, we realize there's much more behind this apathy. The season finale is the high point in this regard: it's there that the mask begins to fall, revealing an extremely calculating, cold, and, in a way, frightening character. The way he sees people as tools and always positions himself a few steps ahead completely changes our perception of him and elevates the narrative.

Even though it flirts with some genre clichés like school rivalries, stereotypical characters at certain moments, and predictable situations, it manages to stand out for its execution. The psychological tension and the game of manipulation compensate for any familiarity in the structure.

Visually, the anime also fulfills its role very well. The animation is consistent, the designs are clean and appealing, and the direction knows how to highlight both calmer moments and scenes of greater emotional impact. It's not a work that relies on large action sequences, but it still manages to be visually engaging.

Ultimately, Classroom of the Elite is more than just a school anime; it's a study of ambition, control, and human nature within an extremely competitive system. It's the kind of work that makes you question intentions all the time and captivates you more through its intellect than its spectacle.

Very easy to binge-watch and extremely engaging.

Highly recommended.

Uma das surpresas mais agradáveis que já tive assistindo anime.

Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu e pode até parecer, à primeira vista, mais uma obra escolar genérica com competição entre alunos “geniais”. Mas basta alguns episódios para perceber que há algo mais calculado (e bem mais frio) acontecendo por trás da superfície.

Comecei a assistir por recomendação do Marco, do canal Intoxi Anime, e confesso que fui atraído inicialmente pela estética e pela proposta. Porém, o que me prendeu de verdade foi a forma como a narrativa constrói tensão psicológica em um ambiente aparentemente comum.

A premissa é simples, mas extremamente eficiente: uma escola de elite onde apenas os melhores prosperam. Os alunos são divididos em classes que competem entre si, e o sistema recompensa resultados enquanto pune fracassos, podendo literalmente descartar quem não acompanha o ritmo. Esse conceito cria um ambiente constante de pressão, onde cada decisão importa e onde confiar nos outros pode ser tanto uma vantagem quanto um risco.

A partir disso, a obra desenvolve uma série de jogos mentais, estratégias e conflitos sociais. Cada arco apresenta novas situações onde inteligência, manipulação e leitura de pessoas são mais importantes do que força ou talento bruto. O mais interessante é como os personagens nunca são totalmente transparentes, todos parecem esconder algo, o que mantém o espectador sempre desconfiado e envolvido.

O grande destaque, sem dúvida, é Kiyotaka Ayanokoji. Inicialmente, ele parece apenas mais um protagonista introspectivo e distante, mas conforme a história avança, vamos percebendo que há muito mais por trás dessa apatia. O final da temporada é o ponto alto nesse sentido: é ali que a máscara começa a cair, revelando um personagem extremamente calculista, frio e, de certa forma, assustador. A forma como ele enxerga as pessoas como ferramentas e se posiciona sempre alguns passos à frente muda completamente a percepção que temos dele e eleva o nível da narrativa.

Mesmo sendo uma obra que flerta com alguns clichês do gênero como rivalidades escolares, personagens estereotipados em certos momentos e situações previsíveis, ela consegue se destacar pela execução. A tensão psicológica e o jogo de manipulação compensam qualquer familiaridade na estrutura.

Visualmente, o anime também cumpre muito bem seu papel. A animação é consistente, os designs são limpos e atraentes, e a direção sabe valorizar tanto momentos mais calmos quanto cenas de maior impacto emocional. Não é uma obra que depende de grandes sequências de ação, mas ainda assim consegue ser visualmente envolvente.

No fim das contas, Classroom of the Elite é mais do que um simples anime escolar, é um estudo sobre ambição, controle e natureza humana dentro de um sistema competitivo extremo. É o tipo de obra que te faz questionar intenções o tempo todo e que te prende mais pela mente do que pelo espetáculo.

Muito fácil de maratonar e extremamente envolvente.

Recomendo muito.

Mixed Feelings

Classroom of the Elite (singular) is a very okay show that completely fails at using its premise to its full potential.

At first, you'd think this is a story of multiple very smart people competing to get on top, but really it's only a handful of people that have *any* brains in this plot, most of the side characters are brainless pawns for the few ones that can actually think for themselves. The cast is theoretically big, but even in the main class very few of them have any existence.

Ayanokoji, the protagonist, is fine enough as he is, I actually do find his deadpan, matter-of-fact manner ... of speaking to be really funny, especially compared to the more annoying side characters.
However the writers decided to constantly make him take backstage, for story reasons, meaning you don't actually get to see much of him and he only really gets the highlight when it's time to do the "smart tying up" of the plot. This does make his "cool guy" act in those moments kind of forced.

The other characters aren't really all that interesting though. Horikita supposedly is the deutagonist of the story, and her arc revolves around her inferiority complex towards her brother, but she really is only here to play second fiddle to Ayanokoji since he masterminds everything, and her development is pretty messy and inconsistent.

This first season do feel like nothing much really happens, and introduces the first big "special test", which is very uneventful and already feels like such a departure when we haven't even really gotten to know the class (or from the other ones for that matter)
It's just kinda dull.

Also the blatant fanservice of the female characters (all of them minors) is quite disgusting. I don't need to see a kid's ass.

Intro:
This show is really something special, and I don't mean that in a good way. I truly don't recommend getting into this show, because there are countless other shows that you could watch instead that would be a far better use of your time. I made the mistake of watching this as one of my first anime, and at the time I was blinded by all the big words and simple minded concepts that they threw at me, so at the time, I believed this show to be really good. After a rewatch, I realize, this show is definitely not good.

Concept:
The concept for this show ... is that the most elite and prestigious students attend a super advanced high school. Most of the individuals in this series are some of the dumbest, most easily manipulated, characters in all of anime, but somehow they managed to get into this school that's supposed to be reserved for the best of the best. This show has a plethora of issues, yet people defend it. I also hear, pretty commonly, that the light novel for this series is better than the anime. Although, there is a chance that they just pulled a Tokyo ghoul and absolutely fucked this adaptation, I highly doubt it. There is however still a possibility, because I will admit that I do really enjoy the concept of this anime. This show is supposed to cover, a school for the greatest students of all time which is cutoff from society, where these student, not only live, but buy things in this city, college like atmosphere using a points system that allows you to accrue points overtime through their academic achievements, with the ultimate goal to grow through these ranked classes and work your way up with your fellow classmates to the best class out of 4 alphabetically ordered classes. The greatest class in this case is Class A and the worst is Class D, and through attending this school they will have the opportunity to have an amazing accomplishment that will enable a successful life afterwards. I mean this concept is really awesome, so how the fuck did this anime fumble this so hard?

Story/Characters:
We follow our main character Kiyotaka Ayanokouji, which we know fuck all about throughout most of the anime, except for the fact that he's quiet, smart, and manipulative. Oh, and I forgot to say if there's ever a girl on screen in this anime there's a 100% chance that they like Ayanokouji. And if there's a guy on screen there's a 50/50 chance of the same outcome. All jokes aside, it really is like every girl in this anime likes Ayanokouji for no fucking reason. Honestly, Ayanokouji is bland he his character fucking sucks. He essentially attended this thing, when he was a kid, called the white room. This place was made for producing shit, no personally, individuals that have Mike Tyson and Bruce lee level fighting skills and are the smartest people in the world I guess. Honestly, these mother fuckers come out and they are literally perfect at everything they do. This concept is stupid as fuck to me and actually ends up making the main character unlikable and just pretentious as fuck. Either way, we follow our main character Ayanokouji completely manipulate and outplay every motherfucker in this "prestigious school" like they're puppets on a string. The way he does this is never even well thought out or smart. Countless times, I question if the author put any thought into these "strategic moments" at all or just thought that he didn't have to try on these parts because every character in this show dick rides Ayanokouji saying he's the greatest at everything and the next coming of L. This shit is legit so bad. Oh, and I forgot about the greatest character in this anime. While everyone is trying to look for the infamous panty thief. Yes you heard me right, and yes that is a whole main plot point. Koenji is looking off into the ocean hanging onto the side of a fucking cruise ship. Koenji does whatever the fuck Koenji wants. He'll be swinging from tree's like a fucking monkey, and disregard this whole dumbass panty thieving plot point the anime set up, because he is that guy! But in all reality, I will say there was one character that I did somewhat enjoy and that stood out to me, and that was Suzune Horikita, but this is more of an on and off enjoyment, to be honest. She's a pawn of Ayanokouji, which is tragic, because aside from that, I like her character. Her relationship with her brother, the student council president that also works part time as Ayanokouji's hype man, is alright, but not amazing to be honest. Her whole goal is just to make him proud. I will say however, she is the only competent female in this whole damn anime. Most females will let fuck shit happen to them left and right. Like the red head retard (Airi Sakura), that gets sexually assaulted the cellphone worker guy, and decided to ask her classmates for help over a fucking teacher. Which, by the way, how the fuck did this fucking freak get a job working within this elite society with fucking high schoolers in the first place. What the fuck!!??

Animation/Art:
On another note, the visuals in this anime are honestly just alright, it's really not anything to write home about. I hear a lot of people counter me on this due to the eyes in this anime looking really good, but to be honest, I think that's the only part that excels.

OST:
And as far as the OST goes, it's actually pretty good. Too bad they never play the good tracks throughout the show, you have to look them up on Youtube to really see what I'm even talking about. It's the same songs playing every season with maybe one more track added on each time. In conclusion, every fucking thing sucks in this series and this series is complete ass.

Conclusion:
I would like to say, I have hope for this series especially considering, that I'm watching currently watching season 4 air (Spring 2026), but sadly if you think this season is bad, it only gets worse from here.
